Gorton station (also known as Gorton and Openshaw station) was featured (as Openshaw) in the 1964 song "Slow Train" by Flanders and Swann, in common with Chester-le-Street; both trains did not in fact close and are still open.

The three-letter station code for Baldock is BDK. The station code for Kidbrooke uses the same three letters but in the reverse order, KDB

Alfreton was also rebuilt under the CLASP system.

The CLASP (Consortium of Local Authorities Special Programme) system was a scheme developed in the 1950s by English local authorities to devise a method of designing and assembling prefabricated buildings for use in the public sector.
