Alfreton was originally known as Alfreton & Mansfield Parkway until the opening of the Robin Hood line putting Mansfield back on the railway map.

The station building at Mansfield (albeit not currently in Railway use) was constructed to the designs of the Midland Railway's Chief Architect John Holloway Sanders. The station at Dronfield (albeit now demolished) was also designed by him.

Farncombe was the site of one of the three signal boxes that closed last year as part of the Portsmouth Direct line resignalling. The others were at Haslemere and Petersfield.
