It was designed by AHR, and on account of its inept design and confusing and awkward changes of level was short-listed for the annual Carbuncle Cup, which is awarded UK-wide for architectural bloopers. Another station that has been nominated for this award is Newport, South Wales where the new station building (designed by Grimshaw Architects and Atkins) was put forward in 2011.
