Headingley is one of the oldest stations on the Harrogate line, opening in 1849. In contrast, the newest station on the Harrogate line is Hornbeam Park, opening in 1992.

Ham Street is another station where the name is misspelt, both places being a single word.

Until closure of several railway station closer to the town centre, today's Widnes carried several names based on permutations of Farnworth.

Another station which has undergone a significant name change over the years is the former Lyndhurst Road station, now known as Ashurst New Forest.

The majority of trains calling at Ashford travel from London Waterloo to Windsor & Eton Riverside or Weybridge.

Although there is a line from Blackburn to Hellifield passenger trains normally only run as far as Clitheroe.

Gravesend is the proposed terminus for an extension of the Elizabeth line beyond Abbey Wood.
