Corbridge is also a DfT category F1 station that was opened in 1835.

As of the December 2021 timetable change, Corbridge has an hourly service between Newcastle and Hexham (or Carlisle on Sunday), with additional trains at peak times. Most trains extend to Morpeth or Nunthorpe via Hartlepool.

In 1987 twelve different horse sculptures by the artist Kevin Atherton, entitled Iron Horse, were erected between Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton, including one at the southern end of platforms 2 and 3 at the latter. In 1986 British Rail commissioned his artwork Platforms Piece on the platforms of Brixton, which comprises three bronze sculptures of commuters.

In the 19th century, continental boat trains were combined or divided at Herne Hill to offer passengers the convenience of through carriages to either Victoria (for the West End) or Ludgate Hill (for the City of London).
