Wimbledon station was the haunt of a 'Railway Collection Dog'. Airedale Terrier "Laddie" was born in September 1948 and started work at the station in 1949, collecting donations on behalf of the Southern Railwaymen's Homes at Woking, via a box strapped to his back. He retired in 1956 having collected over £5,000 and spent the rest of his days with the residents at the Home. On his death in 1960, he was stuffed and returned to Wimbledon station. He continued to collect for the Homes, in a glass case situated on Platform 5, until 1990 when he retired once more and became part of the National Railway Collection. "Laddie" was one of a number of "Railway Collection Dogs" across the Southern Railway / Southern Region; Handsome Boy Prince once collected at East Croydon Station.

Navigation Road has bicycle parking facilities but no car park, whereas Mobberley (also on the Mid Cheshire Line) has a car park but no bicycle parking facilities.

The level crossing at Mobberley is slightly unusual in that one barrier on each side covers the whole width of the road. The crossing at Woodsmoor has a similar configuration.

Davenport is passed by a number of freight trains which take a different route to the passenger ones towards Manchester - they traverse the line, infamous for its infrequent passenger service, from Stockport to Guide Bridge via Denton

Due to the short platform at Whimple station, passengers wishing to alight need to be in the front three coaches as the platform can only take three-car trains. The same is not the case at the adjoining station at Cranbrook, where the station's single platform can accommodate the six-car trains used on the line.

Newcourt is also a single-platform station that was opened in 2015.

In May 2013, it was announced that Newcourt would be one of four stations to benefit from the Coalition government's New Station Fund together with Ilkeston, Lea Bridge and Pye Corner. All of these are now open, with the most recent being Ilkeston in 2017.
