Fairbourne was originally opened as Barmouth Junction. It took on its current name when re-opened after an extended period of closure between 1867 and 1899.

Another station which was "re-branded" after a period of closure is the original Stobcross - shut between 1959 and 1979, named Finnieston on re-opening, and subsequently today's Exhibition Centre (Glasgow).

Wrexham General is also named with a suffix which does not indicate its location within the place it serves - in both cases, the suffixes are instead a remnant from before nationalisation, when they were used to distinguish from another nearby station operated by a different company.

For those not aware, the Wigan NW isn't actually north-west of Wigan; it's named as such because it was built by the London and North Western Railway

There is an infrequent AWC Voyager from Wrexham General to Euston.
This passes by Kensal Green, and Kensal Green is also related to another company with General in its name, albeit indirectly. When the Bakerloo service was introduced, it was in UERL days, and UERL ran London General buses.

Edwin Henry Horne was an English architect working in the Victorian era and is best known for the six spacious new station buildings opened by the North London Railway between 1870 and 1872 to reflect the growing importance of the line. Only two of these survive as stations, Highbury and Islington (built 1872) and Camden Road, opened in 1870.

From Camden Road to South Hampstead there is a short connection by rail, but there are no passenger services using it. Passengers must instead loop around via Willesden Jn.
Similarly, from Lee to Grove Park, there is only a sharp curve—but rail passengers must make their way through Lewisham.
