The original Italianate style station at Three Bridges was opened in July 1841 by the London and Brighton Railway and was designed by the architect David Mocatta. It was one of a series of standardised modular buildings used by the railway and was demolished in 1985. Another, but less long-lived, station designed by him was at Hassocks; this was in use between 1841 and 1880.
