Glenrothes with Thornton is approximately 32 miles from Edinburgh Waverley. In a different direction, but still starting from Edinburgh, Galashiels is also around 32 miles.

The Windermere Branch terminates at Oxenholme Lake District, although there are three trains daily (Monday to Friday) that carry on towards Manchester Airport, calling at Burnage on the way.

Looe is the terminus of the Looe Valley Line, which is marketed by the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership under that name. The partnership also market the Riviera Line between Exeter Central to Paignton, which passes through Starcross on the way.

Charing Cross is referenced in numerous Sherlock Holmes stories. In The Adventure of the Abbey Grange, Holmes and Watson catch a train from the station towards the fictional Abbey Grange in Kent, while in The Adventure of the Golden Pince-Nez, they travel to Chatham from the station.
