Aye, AFAIK they aren't signalled correctly for passenger use, so they could well be used for stabling only.

Arlesey only has two platforms (on the slows) where four lines pass through the station.

There's two actually; one is as you mentioned (1S87 1657 Euston to Glasgow departing Tamworth at 1800), and the other is 1S94 1757 Euston to Glasgow calling at Tamworth at 1900.
