Hello, totally unrelated but I have a question for the locals in Cheltenham and Gloucester. I figured this would be a good place to ask

Would any of you happen to know how come Gloucester's MMC for the 10 ended up being the Scania chassis instead of ADL? It shocked me given that for 3 years, Stagecoach said no to new Scanias due to a dispute with Scania over e-Fans or something like that. That's why my local (S6) got the ADL MMCs instead of the 2nd batch of Gold Scania MMCs we were supposed to receive at Swindon. Had we got them as planned, they'd have been numbered 15350-15363, bumping up your Gloucester ones to 15364-15384! At least I think that's how they'd be numbered. And of course, there'd be no 10982-10996 at West. An interesting "what if?" scenario for us all too

I don't know sorry, but I was very surprised to see Stagecoach ordering Scanias again in 2021!

15638 has lost its 25 years wrap and has gained a Cirencester college wrap. Just waiting permission to share a photo.

EDIT: photo here.

I do remember that my 94 bus was about 20 minutes late, and thanks to that, I missed the last 853 of the day that would have taken me back home to Oxford, meaning that I had to get the train on the way back.
That can't have been cheap! I've been in that position myself, and had to get the 51 to Swindon and the S6 from there (both run later than the 853), but that took absolutely ages.

Yep. £25 super off peak single.

My original plan was indeed to get the 51 then S6 (then my local routes 1/5/10/11/12/U5, and yes I indeed live on Cowley Road) back home but as I was going out with my friends from uni that night, I had to get back home quite early. Hence me getting the train back.

I don't think a definitive reason has ever been given, however if I was to hazard a guess it could be to do with the fact that Gloucester depot is very experienced with Scania vehicles (hence the pending transfer of 5 Scania Enviro 300s from Banbury).

A comical afternoon in Gloucester today. Some buses do not track, however only very few. Currently there are:

2 vehicles on Service 1 instead of 4 (both travelling with eachother)
2 vehicles on Service 2/2A instead of 3 (one of which an enviro 200)
3 vehicles on Service 8 instead of 6
2 vehicles on Service 9 instead of 3
4 vehicles on Service 10 instead of 12 (two of which are travelling with eachother)
2 vehicles on Service 12 instead of 4 (both travelling with eachother)

There is no notice of this anywhere. Service 10 is becoming a joke, having been "re-launched" earlier in the year it is now regularly cancelled even under reduced frequency, and buses almost always run with each over. It can only be a matter of time before services are reduced more...

Oh dear!

I went to Cheltenham races last Saturday and as usual there were a LOT of extra buses for the races. It actually looked like they’d pinched the whole of the yellow number 10 branded fleet!

Sad how they seem to find drivers for that service but decimate the regular timetable…

Yes, I realise $$$ are the only important thing in the world today so it doesn’t surprise me!

Yep, there were 7 10 vehicles used on the races as well as a load of Oxfords and Whitney’s as well. The Driver of my 10 had to put the bus full signs up and many passengers waiting were understandably annoyed

A few changes to services in Stroud commencing 02/01/2022:

Christmas services are now up as well.

In other news, 15859 VX62 CZT has been repainted with 15763 VX61 FKN next in.

Also will be interesting to see whether the upcoming service reduction in Oxford will have much of an impact on depot allocation across the West. This to me screams as a perfect opportunity to be rid of some tridents...

Heres 15859

On other news, the YT21s seem to be ending up on Newent schools lately, anyone know the reason why?

I'd put it down to the combination of a shortage of deckers (15763 is away for repaint, 15859 still not out (I believe), 15980 was away at Ross until yesterday evening, 18313 and 18315 are both broken) and the fact that the MMCs will slowly be seen off route, and it seems most practical to use them on cards where deckers are required and there are less workings. Putting them instead on a 22 or 23 could mean an untrained driver from the Milkwall outstation ends up with an MMC.

27701 transferred from Gloucester to Banbury this week and 28742 went the opposite direction.

Enviro 200's 36928 and 36929 are at Stroud, presumably the first transfers from Oxford following their service reduction.

Tridents causing trouble in Gloucester at the moment. 18313 is having its front axle worked on and 18315 is getting a new drive train. 18090 broke down a few weeks back and it's engine seemingly died - Stagecoach have decided to not fix it and it will be withdrawn. 18089 was playing up yesterday and the day before resulting in a cancellation on the 23.

15763 here, turns out it has got gold swirls. Also told that 15764 has gone to Bristol for repaint today.
Additionally, 15981 has had panel replacements in Cheltenham as well as the fiberglass front pieces replaced to we could potentially see Cheltenham’s first decker repaint.

15764 going means Gloucester will no longer have a gold liveried decker in service.

Actually, they still will, you forget about the VX09s on the 63. There's also the SN66 and the YX67s on the 94/94U/94X (ok I know it's not Gloucester depot but still goes to Gloucester).

28742-28743 are apparently transferring to Gloucester, with E300s in the 27701-27706 batch to replace them.

10067 I don't know, same with 10687, 15758 and 36771.
