Fareboxes may not neccassarily be removed. Stagecoach Fife did consider it in 2008. The plan is not dead, but on hold.

Err..I'm sorry but I don't see how this is related to PB?
For a long while, Stagecoach has been wanting to implement an oyster card style system where you swipe your card on the machine when you go on and it deducts your fare from a predetermined balance.
I'm personally against this - it would leave me 85p out of pocket per month. not much advantage in a bus pass just for going to school and back. It does come into its own for weekend travel though!

Oyster style passes would be great. Safe on printing in the long run.

Stagecoach policy is that their buses give change so there wouldnt be any need to retain the fareboxes - unless they would be protected while the union negotiates and agreement for Preston drivers to handle cash......and install paying in equipment at the depot. So Fife wouldnt get them either (but this thread is for NW buses.....)

If they are to implement a smart card system then it needs to be like the TfL Oyster cards being 'multi-use' for want of a better term - in being able to be used as a season MegaRider/GoldRider pass or pay-as-you-go stored credit for use on single journeys. Being able to top up the card in local shops would be an advantage too. I have a TfL Oyster card with around £10 on it and have had it for over 2yrs and use it when ever Im in London.

From midnight PB will be under SC control. Apparently they are reviewing the whole network in Preston.
Had the F reg again today funny old thing it is. D1A had funny blinds. They said "1A and the DALLAM SCHOOL and then 1A again. really weird. The rear blinds just said 1A.
Went on 17024 for the first time since its revamp. Its crap!!! the only good thing is the LED and the CCTV. The panels on the side need replacing the branding needs replacing and the whole ruddy thing needs a repaint. Te seat needs doing as well and to finish off new LED back lights.

RIP Preston Bus.
The review will probably be the withdrawal of duplicate routes. Will be keeping my eyes on the fleet numbers, legal lettering, and fleetnames.
I expect the Preston Bus licence will be remain for now and the name added to Stagecoach licence - so at least the name will live on.......

Just noticed that from February there's a round of fare increases on passes with Kendal; a goldrider will go up from £80/month to £88/month.
Can't remember what the weekly tickets will be like - but they are affected.
Finally got my chance to have a look at the back of 17020. Even a friend commented that it looked like it had a new rear.
You should have seen his face when I told him that was exactly what happened!

The Metroriders will be going ASAP I guess, the Olympians may get a small stay but they are rather old. Older than some of those stored at LL anyway.
The Lynx will be kept for schools work, but these will go as well.

I would kill for three ex-PB buses to replace our Leyland Olys (apart from 14204). Its a shame that most of the PB fleet will stay where they are.

We shall see! I reckon they will all stay where they are seeing as the old ones are going.
personally i think the older PB oly's will be sold / scrapped, and possibly replaced by the ex Lakes Link oly's.
the metroriders could maybe replace some of the knackered 709d's still in service at Barrow, just as a short term replacement.
hopefully some solo's will make their way across the NW area (1 service at Lillyhall comes to mind!, and 709d replacements in Barrow).
scania esteems could possibly replace Preston Citi darts, of which could be sent somewhere else in SCNW.
it all depends what is happening in Preston though, and if SCNW want them kept in Preston, or if any new SCNW vehicles will replace some of the PB services being kept.

a small commemoration is planned to take place on Thursday night. This will take place prior to the 2300 mass departure from the Bus Station. It is currently planned that the 2300 service 23 to Asda will be used to mark the occasion as this is scheduled to be the last bus back to Deepdale Road Depot (due in at 2337).
Current plan is that Olympian 133 (A33MRN), the oldest vehicle in the fleet, will be used to duplicate the last 23 departure which itself will be operated by Scania 200 (PRN909). Both of course are subject to availability. It is hoped that 133 will be crew operated.
Anyone wishing to travel on 133 from the bus station to Deepdale Road can do so as it is a registered journey.

its a shame Preston Bus has gone, but its good that stagecoach got it! and not some terrible company like Arriva!
wouldnt suprise me if large increase in fares happened in Preston now! no competition for stagecoach, so they'll probably want to get their profits up as much as possible from that area.

Before people go getting excited over Prestons fleet being cast far and wide, I would imagine the fleet will remain stable for the time being - the former Traction/Roadcar fleets have remained in their respective areas.
It seems strange that Preston Bus is no more as this morning there were no outward signs that anything was different, PB liveried buses still in full livery, running on their former routes, and Stagecoach buses on their own routes - quite surreal. I would have thought that there would have been at least stickers in the windscreens marking the change. Are the Preston Bus/Stagecoach passes now valid on the 'others' services?

Apparently only one of PB buses has had its PB branding removed. It one of the old Olys 134 G34OCK.
Had 14235 on D6 today. D1A read 1A again today so I don't know whats going on there. 16666 on the 2 and 21005 also on the 2 while a MAN was on the 41. 14208was also on the 41.

There will be some changes over the weekend, I believe. Preston Bus fleetnames are due to be taken off and Stagecoach applied. There will also be a name change at the entrance to the depot. I have the new fleet numbers for the Preston Bus fleet and these have been added to my NW Buses site on both the Preston Bus section and the Stagecoach North West section [see the two links on the front page at

I would think that the staff passes will be valid on either services, but the interavailability of passenger tickets does not start until 25th [Sunday]

i'm happy about 40001 and 40006, but not 40028 lol. no idea what its like mechanically, but it has an awesome interior! the N???VSS 709d should go, it seems to be a bit of a wreck! but most 709d's are lol
There were about 5 that were sold on from some Stageoach in the North East I think it was, 4 of them were in a scrapped-on site condition having been extensively raided for spares.
Needless to say, the deal fell through when the buyer saw them and only the serviceable one went.

40004, 40023, 40328, 40396, 40441, 40641/9 are all on the Period 9 disposals list anyway, so i guess they'll be moving on shortly.

it would be nice if they got 40012 back out of service! after bringing it out of reserve!!! just shows how desperate lillyhall are! the marshall darts should make a difference though :-P just need a few more 709d replacements!
