Why is 17013 in storage at Kendal? Is it the open top?

Observed yet another B10 on the 3 today (20544) and 18324 in the 41. 2005 Tridents on the Preston routes seems to be a regular occurrence these days.

I imagine the Titans will carry on until their replacements are ready. I completely forgot about different seasons and open tops been useless in winter lol.

Can i somehow have a copy of the fleetlist dated 7th Dec?

its very interesting to know the workings of the depot so thanks for that info!!!

Any fleet news from anyone? I think there's some stuff going on in the new year down in Preston and Manchester buts its all very hush hush and there's not much info on it form varies sources.

the fleet list dated 7th dec is on this forum thread somewhere, attached to one of mbonwicks posts.
17013 is one of the open tops, but is at lillyhall (near end of conversion). once conversion work is finished, it will be stored at kendal until the open top season starts.
i have no idea how smoothly lillyhall services ran today, as i havnt left the house! i imagine there was a B10m on moorclose circular instead of a solo.

17013 is for Open Topping, yes.
Period 8 fleetcard is attached somewhere here - about 3 pages back I guess.

I've jsut had a thought about all these unusual workings for high floor buses - it isn't university term time. Perhaps the MANs are off the road during this period to receive some TLC. Dallamlad, if you've ever seen one set off, you'll know that the fuel injectors are in a bad way, worse than on B10s.

Oh yeah good thinking about the Uni but surely this has no effect on how many people with push chairs/wheelchairs use the bus. The frequency of people who require a low riding vehicle I would imagine is higher between Morecambe/Heysham and Lancaster then between Lancaster and the Uni. However I think your right, Stagecoach may be taking advantage of the quite period to do some work on the MANS.

Yes the open toppers stuff makes sense know what with the seasons and all. Will 17014 be coming back to Lancaster or is that set for conversion?

Ah I see. yes i knew what we had lost and what we still had but u couldn't remember what was going open top and what wasn't. I do hope 17014 finds its way back to Lancaster. Did someone say is what standing in for a damaged Oly?

Its been over 6 months since 17024 had an LED fitted I do wish they would get on with the others lol.

Aw how awful, what a nasty occurrence. Yes I hope it does come back although it will mean there will be gaps in the type numbers now lol jumping from 17014 - 17017 how annoying!!!

Whats happening with the damaged Oly? I think its been mentioned on this thread but for the life of me can't remember.

Yes time does fly. Was 17024 an experiment to see how it worked or something because the have done that one and no others. 17020 is getting one but that's be becasue it was in an accident a few months ago and so its just getting an LED as a matter of course while its in the garage.

I think 17024 just happened to be the first one in for major works after they made the decision to fit LEDs, so it was done.

I don't know what will happen to 16635, but I guess it will have to wait until the police investigation is finished, and that could take several months (look at how long RAIB reports take!)

yes I guess is was just first in line at the time. Looks good.

Yes the Police could be a while so we shall see. I'm sure they will just repair it.

probably something else for lillyhall to repair!
would have been better if they took an olympian out of reserve to cover it, leaving the trident where it was! that is something stagecoach aren't good at doing though! they seem to do things the long way around! i didnt see the point taking 20777 out of reserve back into service at lillyhall, then transferring a lillyhall B10m to somewhere else in stagecoach NW. would have been better moving 20777 somewhere else!
its similar with the dart transfers that are currently taking place. moving preston darts to kendal, and preston getting some from merseyside. would be a lot easier just taking the ex merseyside ones straight to kendal.

Yeah but usually its because some vehicles are more mechanically sound then others. For example 17020 was meant to go fro open topping but at the last min it was swapped with 17016 because the mechanics of 17020 were better. So two vehicles that look identical on the outside are completely different on the inside. Its this or Stagecoach are just daft. probs a mix of both lol. I agree about 17024 an Oly out of reserve would have been better.

probably stagecoach being stupid! the lillyhall B10m's are usually school work only these days, apart from the occasional covering of other routes. the only fully B10m route is 30A. chances are the one that was transferred was a wreck underneath!
hopefully stagecoach will sort themselves out. there are too many buses in reserve. most of them are just sitting at lillyhall rotting away! the 709s need to disappear! most of them don't work, so why keep them in reserve.

I think it's quite logical about 17014. It was at Chorley, but (along with 17013)was swapped back to Preston for 2 olympians. I guess they were both going to come back, but after the accident Preston just kept it.
I suppose though Preston could have one of Lancaster's Olympians (14208?) in a swap.

Cainebj, the 709Ds will be for spares or remobilisation. So, they are either providing spares for there classmate, or should there be another flood like Carlisle, they can be sent to help out.

the 709's were for spares, but most of the parts most commonly needed are broken on the spare ones (mostly gearboxes and clutches). they would be better fitting universal auto boxes to them (like what my friends dad done to one of his duple's). if carlisle depot did get into trouble again, i wouldnt be suprised if they ended up swapping vehicles with other depot's! the coaches for 685 service were flooded, and carlisle recieved 2 Berkhof bodied coaches with manual gearbox and clutch. it wasnt long until they were swapped temporarilly with auto box coaches from lillyhal!

Yeah, 17013. I can't see them putting in new lights - what's the point?

16635 looks quite bad there, possibly a write off.

Simply for appearances sake. They have done it to some vehicles in the past for no reason at all lol. But your right there wouldn't be much point at all. You got to feel sorry for Kendal s depot manager. fitting a group of those Trident 2's into the depot up their is gona be a task and a half!!!

Yeah it does look like a write off. I don't suppose its worth the effort to repair it seeing as vehicles like this are very slowly on their way out. Would be easier for it to be replaced by a reserve vehicle from another depot and then just using the wreck for spairs.

I love the looks of this-http://www.flickr.com/photos/15218213@N06/2810896045/

it is nice to look back and see how good the buses used to be! i used to love travelling on the old bristol deckers. was the strongest decker i have ever been on! much better than the oly's!
the J??? HFR olympians that were transferred to carlisle a while ago have been seeing use on transport links for Carlisle College. not sure where they run to and from, but they are around. there are some F reg olympians (NC bodied i think) in reserve which have been used a lot recently on school special's (i think one was recently re-painted at lillyhall). would have been nicer if i recieved this information earlier, but oh well.

click here to see PHH149W a Bristol Decker, now owned by Workington Transport Heritage Trust. this picture is when it had just come out of service from Stagecoach Lancashire, seen at Carlisle depot. It was originally a Cumberland Motor Services vehicle i think, which made its way into Stagecoach when CMS were taken over. this is one of the buses used by WTHT on special events, and their annual free bus service in Workington on boxing day.

back in the days when carlisle had MANs! knew i'd be able to find a picture of one in mid display change! this one was operating the 61A to morton. it was one of the ones which weren't flood damaged! it was replaced with a Carlisle Citi Dart though. i'd much rather have the MAN than the darts!

i prefer what they done to the display on that one! i think that one was flooded, along with 22802 and 22803.

There is a pit at Morecambe with brake and emissions testing equipment, but they arent allowed to do their own MoT these have to be impartial. Buses were sent to Volvo Bus and Truck for testing. University term doesnt affect the maintenance programme for the fleet, step entrance substitutions are very common these days in the past it was extremely rare to see unless it was just after the Tridents entered service, these were riddled with faults with some days seeing all 13 off the road! 14176 left Morecambe a long time ago returning briefly in 2004. 14174 was WLs long time resident and was a dream to drive, 15731 was also at WL as KRM 431W along with 427, 435 and 2024

Yes, I believe you told me about the Tridents...introduced on the Saturday, all off the road by monday!

What you say about MoTs makes sense. Where abouts is the Volvo place they go to?

Tridents entered service on a Sunday (I have the actual date somewhere) and by the Wednesday they were all VOR with various faults. In the first week of Trident operation they were substituted by MANs to the detriment of the 3 & 4 which was seeing B10Ms. Many passengers complained to the county council which resulted in MANs being returned the 3/4 circuit and Tridents being substituted by whatever could get out of the gate under its own power!!

White Lund, back of Pye Motors I think.....

would be useful if these were still around! would have been good for lillyhall's X4 / X5 service instead of those nasty jonckheere's.

Right been on a recon today to Stagecoach in Lancaster's depot. As they buses haven't bin running today thought it would be a good time to see everything together through the fence. I couldn't see the buses parked up in the center of the yard but i could see death row and a view other buses parked up against the fence. I spotted:

20775-Still there after its accident and just a spare bucket now.
11000 (I think)-An open top Titan that i think is for the chop.
11081-Same as 11000.

17019 was parked up next to the above with a red wheel cover on the steering wheel indicating that it should not be driven. There was no obvious damage on the outside. It still had the 40 on its blinds.

40641 was also there. This old bit of rubbish was withdrawn ages ago.

At the other end of the fence i observed:

20702 and 20699 which i think are ex Merseyside and have been sold off.
33169 Marshall bodies dart. I think this is one of Kendal's. Does anyone know why its in Lancaster?

Well thats about all i could see. A good visit though.

17019 - may have had a gearbox problem or something.

40641 - I think it's awaiting a buyer, either the scrapman or another company.

20702 has been in reserve for a long time, may get sent to Liverpool for MagicBus?!

20699 and 33169 are both ex-Kendal. 20699 is destined for Essex somewhere, it's been displaced at Kendal by 20661. I'm not surprised by that, mechanically it is awful!
33169 may be getting attention/repaint, perhaps it is off to Lillyhall. IDK really.
