On paper thats true, reality doesn't quite match that. A lot of goodwill from drivers has been used up to keep services running as much as possible.

Most of the “goodwill” (overtime) will be to cover sickness, lieu days, routine training, etc. There is also the gap between new drivers starting with the business and being ready to go out by themselves which takes at least 2 months

I'm very surprised the x52 is coving off but Glenrothes depot and Rennies do cover that route along with Dunfermline. I dare say there isn't the buses to cover this now.

I didn’t think Rennies had any ordinary service work now?

All the Euro4 and below are heading out of the area.

Two pages back, where it highlighted Stagecoach handed back over 20 school contracts, they is fife council Doc saying all council routes and school buses must be Euro 5 or above. It very unlikely Fife will have anything below Euro 5.

SO Rennie's must have stopped doing the runs on X52 last august? I have to agree there are not quiet. I think this could cause a flash point and protests?

It got me thinking why the X55 doesn’t have deckers all the time? A set of Scania E400mmc’s would do well. No doubt there’s probably a good reason for it. Wind on Forth Road Bridge?

Certainly back in the day the majority of the Fife to Edinburgh expresses were operated by deckers.

Correct, diverting via the Queensferry Crossing omits the 2 stops either end of the Forth Road Bridge

Probably also because there's a limited market for the Panther LEs. The mix of the stop-start nature of the Dunfermline/Rosyth end of the route and the express Ferrytoll - Edinburgh section, combined with a short overall end-to-end journey time (not requiring a toilet, extensive luggage space, etc.), makes them ideal for the X55. Stagecoach would probably find it difficult to displace or even sell them if they introduced a double deck fleet on the route

I don’t think that’s a total disaster to be honest. I know it’s different using them as required than all the time, but when they are used they work well.

I think the LE’s definitely find themselves in a niche position. Obviously only 20 were ever built - 19 for East Scotland and the now Perth based ex demo 54521.

Certainly you could make an argument that the X7 would probably suit the LE’s. Mind you a route that has certainly struggled since COVID.

With the upcoming Fife Council Euro 5 restrictions coming up in August, for Stagecoach is it as simple as anything older than a later 57 or an 08 plate must not be used?

A look on the bustimes.org fleet list only has a handful of 56/07/57 plate deckers.

Guessing that engine conversion would not be cost-effective in the long run.

And presuming there will be areas that older buses can be sent to where these restrictions have not yet been implemented? Thought there would have been somewhere within the group that could have sent up some slightly newer buses in exchange for the old bangers.

They have been having the Stagecoach fleetnames removed which suggests that they are being disposed of.

I could see some of the non Euro5 stock going to Perth for a bit if the fleet is swapped about a bit. I don’t think it’s possible to remove all the non Euro5 stock, but certainly some of the School allocated deckers may return to normal service. Indeed I think some already have.

I wonder if it’s possible that the Arbroath EV’s in time will act as the actual replacements. This should displace the low back seated MMC’s at Arbroath for move elsewhere?

Service 74 changes:

From Monday the 7th of July, our service 74 route will be changing in Dundee.



The route and times east of Dundee High Street will remain unchanged. The 74 & 74B will be the same in the early morning, evening and Sunday.

West of Whitehall Street, the Monday to Saturday daytime journeys on services 74A & 74C will run via Slessor Gardens and Dundee railway station before continuing to Hawkhill, Hunter Street.

From there the return journey will no longer run via Perth Road and will go via Bellfield Street, Blackness Road and Hawkhill to High Street.

80211 and 80212 have always been destined for Dunfermline. They are intended for use on the double deck boards on the 747, and have luggage racks fitted

The Euro 5 restriction actually came in last August, but the council had allowed them a years grace!

Yes, it is. However 11531-11536 will only or mostly be working out of Forfar I believe.

If that’s the case, seems to me like it might be the rest of the 19 plates to Perth with the 16 plates making up the gaps.

The Evora’s have gone/are going and then there’s more E200mmc’s moved to Cumbria. The only additions outside of what you said appear to be the ex Glasgow X19 E300’s from Midlands.

I can’t see how any E400’s arrive with the end of the schools.
