There are as far as I can tell probably a few other routes that operate unnecessarily, especially for those less abled, as SPT says MyBus is available for those with mobility or severe mental health issues as well..

Isn't the 106 commercial 3 days a week and SPT pays for the other 3 days?
Perhaps the supposed 3-day commerciality is only sustainable if the other 3 days are in operation on a subsidised basis?

Yes, I believe that is the case and the commercial operator has cancelled their journeys.

ARG Travel and United were both running the service up until July, with ARG running the subsidised runs, and united running the commercial runs. Hobsons took over in July and it became fully subsidised

Over on Canavans Facebook page it states that the SPT funded 247 is being partly commercialised, to the 347 & 447, with no Westfield to Monklands journeys.
Not that it’s a big issue with the FirstBus operated X3 travelling from Westfield to Cumbernauld Town Centre so you can transfer to a Monklands bound bus.
Have SPT pulled the funding for the day service on the 247 that anyone knows about or is this a decision on Canavans part?

Canavan do seem to have pretty poor reliability going by their posts on Facebook, with several runs being pulled a couple of times per week due to driver issues

I thought it was commercial between Cumbernauld and Monklands Hospital since McNairn's competed on the Monday to Friday?

McNairns were the commercial side. all the Canavans ones were tender.

SPT withdraw the funding once Mc Nairn started it's service, so Canavan's made it commercial.
Cuts to the 147 is a lot more drastic. Looks like SPT are cutting back, but on the wrong routes.

Yes, the Monklands Hospital to Cumbernauld section has been commercial for a while, and now Canavan seem to be expanding that a little.

When is the next set of retending taking place? I can see a lot more cuts coming down the line if the past few months is anything to go by.

Tenders were submitted around a month ago for the annual round of tenders due for renewal in July 2025. There were a number of (largely minor) reductions within the specifications issued. Any awards won’t be revealed until the end of January.
They can of course discuss reductions for other contracts that aren’t due for renewal until 2026, 2027 (or later) with the incumbent operators.

I'm surprised there not going to be bigger cuts. What happened to the 247 seem rather drastic compared to the rest of the network, especial on a Sunday.

* 19A Sunday service: the Last journey each way is withdrawn.
* 93: Monday to Friday service now operate from 8am - 17pm while on Saturday it will operate from 10am - 3pm
* 193: Sunday service will now extend to Law, to replace 210 and operate every 90mins.
* 210: Early morning and late evening journeys withdraw, service no longer operates via Law - Its unclear if its been revised to just Evening only service as Sunday daytime, the 193 covers Law and JMB buses 41 covers Carluke
* 227/228: Withdraw. Sunday only SPT service both gone due to lack of demand. The Sunday cuts are getting more of the impact.

In fairness, in SPT world cuts can be good as it may mean that they are starting to see sense and look more at passenger numbers and simplification. Much better than just keep giving out the same tenders and them running as fresh air expresses.

The word were looking for is bloated, SPT need to radical overhaul its operations. Anyone that thinks SPT could do the same as in Liverpool or Manchester needs to visit the doctors.

SPT Services 1, 2, 2A operated by McGill's are cancelled from the 1st February due to Johnstone Community Area Transport running a Quarriers Village - Johnstone service commercially. The 1A will still run between Kilmacolm and Johnstone via Houston but no longer via Quarriers Village.

Another Craig’s of Cumbernauld service bites the dust. Think that just leaves the 72/178 which are both in the same SPT contract.
