Butts. Not every offer is related to First Class. VTEC do not always offer a good First Class service. Please try to understand this.

Regardless, this offer does actually apply to First Class.

If you follow the Catering Thread I'm sure you will be aware that I might just realise that !!!

I suppose I'm different in that whenever I go on a leisure trip I want to travel 1st Class as it is an event to me.

I think everyone wants to travel first class - it just might cost too much for some people!

Hence the reason I'm bemoaning the lack of £10-£12 1st Class Tickets in the current Flat Fare sale compared to the previous 50% off one.

Well that's a stockpile of tickets booked on TPE.

Those eligible for 16-18 discount like myself can take advantage of silly fares like £3.85 Newcastle to Leeds [emoji14]

So does that means 62% off when combining this offer with my 16-25 Railcard and using code tpestudent?

Possibly. It said it was valid with all railcards but I don't know if it's valid with codes.

Last year's January Sale was a Flat Fare one. The best deals were £4 Std London <> Birmingham and £35 1st London <> Glasgow.

From my perspective I've done Carlisle, Lancaster, Preston, Barrow, Blackpool -still could do a repeat run somewhere. Likely to run into the same "fixed" problem as the VEC one - ie more expensive than 50% off :p

Just checked. It doesn't work with 16-25 Railcard code but does work for the 16-18 discount as you mentioned. I don't lose much as I anyway get 50% off any advance ticket with 16-25 Railcard and code like one get with 16-18 discount.

I have bought a ticket that should cost £13 for £6.45 with the TransPennine Black Friday offer, so it appears they do work in conjunction (they did last time TP had this promotion in late spring). The offer does stack with a railcard, which these offers often do not. It's simply that 16-25 railcards booking Standard Class tickets (no others, and not First Class tickets) have an alternative, equivalent, permanent offer. Technologically I do not think WebTIS could handle 50%, 50%, 34% discount.

I think you have to accept that the vast majority of their customers are travelling to or from London. The offers are designed around pleasing them, and the Flat Fares give bigger discounts for long-distance journeys between London and the North.

That was not the case with the 50% off VEC one, but in general you are correct. Of course I would normally Fly to London City provided I had notice and time to book a decent fare.

It was, because it meant they could offer less discount to more people. The normal quota runs out very quickly now, so some people were getting £40 tickets (in Standard class) where they were usually paying £80. Those people could now be getting £5 tickets - obviously the magnitude of that means they cannot make it as widely available. Flat Fare offers are also shorter as a result. You got lucky because you make journeys they cater for on the side.

Here's a code for 30% off Virgin Trains: PP647MJ36G

First come first served. Doesn't allow railcard discounts

Is it likely to be 30% off or a "Flat Fare" ?

This was what was posted:

Virgin Trains West Coast are having a seat sale on first class advance tickets. Tickets must be booked between 29/11/16-01/12/16. Travel is valid on trains between 10/12/16 and 08/01/17.

Example fares for a one way ticket...

Glasgow/Carlisle to Euston - £35
Penrith to Euston - £28
Preston to Euston - £28
Birmingham to Glasgow/Edinburgh - £30
Preston to Glasgow/Edinburgh - £20
Manchester to Euston - £28
Birmingham to Euston - £17

Have sent you a code via PM

Thanks but I think you need to book it via the web app as when I have had these before (e-mail) it asks you to put the code in right at the start. I think I will have to wait until 29th November. No Link on VWC site or space for code.

The code seems to have disappeared from the Virgin Red app, just as I was about to reveal it. :(
