£20 First Class fares from Northern England to London are a lot better than 50% off in some cases. £5 Standard fares are many many times better than 50% off. But this is also typical of the pre-January Sale.

The January Sale has been a flat fare sale for years now. The availability 2 years ago was huge. This... Isn't.

How far does £15 1st Class get you from Edinburgh ? - Newcastle ?

Sorry I can't get on the "app" :p

Thanks for that Kite.....

Have had just had a quick look and have come up with a £15 Flat fare 1st Class Single to London from FKG Direct on the 0542 on a Tuesday in January. That is a bargain.

However Newcastle is coming in at a £20 Flat Fare.....

The 50% was better for shorter hops as £12 NCL Tickets were plentiful from FKG.

£15 to London is really good if only it were not 5 hours without a fag :p

Newcastle to Doncaster in standard is £10 yet Leeds to London is £5, doesn't seem to make masses of sense.

Anyways, scooped some £5 Leeds to London fares for a post New Year weekend away.

£15 is STD. 1ST is £30.

Not on the 0542 from FKG - a £15 Flat Fare in Highlighted the £30 Flat Fare is not available.

£15 Also available on same date January 10th to FKG for Noon Departure.

Humble apologies you are correct, what a hickdead I am ...that was 2nd class !!

One thing I have noticed some of The Advanced 1st Tickets available are cheaper than the Flat Fare 1st Class Ticket - this is why for Mid-Distance trips the scheme is poor value compared to 50% off. I can't find any £15 Flat First Class fares from FKG/EDB even Berwick is £20 when next door on the matrix the Advance 1st Fare is £13 !!!
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
£15 is STD. 1ST is £30.

Thanks ALR.....

Have booked myself on The Chieftain all the way from Kings Cross direct to Falkirk in January for £30 ...got a seat to myself in J as well. Now where did I put those nicotine patches :(

Looking forward to hitting the Lounge there for the first time, take it you can on these "beggar briefs"

I'll get more bang (or scotch :p) for my buck than on a Breakfast Service.

VTEC not showing sale on their front page. I thought they normally put sales info there once they went live.

I'm confused... the seat sale says it's for dates in the new year.

But last night I managed to book myself some £15 tickets for this coming weekend.

Yes, there appears to be some availability for the rest of this month and for much of December as well.

I wonder what would happen if you got a jobsworth guard on your train insisting that your tickets were invalid as they were not within the dates of the promotion?

I was wondering if this was a mistake and why the site was down?

If they sell you tickets dated for a certain service, then they are valid for that service - no room for argument there as far as I can see.

Yes, it looks like I spoke too soon. I was halfway through booking a £5 each way ticket from Doncaster to Peterborough for this saturday when I got the error message "there are no available seats for this journey" even though it had already shown the fare was available. As soon as I refreshed the page the sale fare had disappeared altogether! So yes, contrary to what I posted earlier, it looks like they showed availability in error for November and December but it's now been removed. Well done if you got one though!

I'm glad I jumped on it last night, instead of leaving it until the morning!

Should have sorted all my christmas travel at the same time really.

The seat sales are just getting worse and worse for me.

It depends where you want to go and your status with regard to railcards etc.

For me personally the 50% off across the board in 1st was better. As I mentioned trips to Northern Cities in England were low teens each way.

With the Flat Fare i can't find a £15 1st class one to anywhere from my end. I also noticed that if you have a Railcard some of the FF's can be undercut by utilising this with a normal advanced.

To me London to Falkirk Direct at £30 in 1st is okay. I'll get Lounge Access , four or five Scotches onboard and feel I've had a good deal.

Thanks to those who brought up the VTEC seat sale. Leeds-Aberdeen 1st class return for £50 is good value.

I believe it's in the Standard Pound Sterling :)

(See what I did there?)

I think it's time for me to leave the building.

Ho Ho - don't give up your day job :p

I just think if you are booking a trip in the sale it should be done in Style not an everyday crush in cattle. However I appreciate not everyone feels the same.

Is it really worth £40 though? Not a chance you can eat £30 worth of food...

Definitely not for the food....however the Scotch could well redeem most of that. Add on the Lounge and superior ambience and yes I think it's worth it.

Most are unwilling to quadruple their upfront cost on the off-chance of a good service. I may pay £40 myself on occasions, but I'd be accepting most of that £30 upgrade is for the benefit of the ambience only.

Well that's a stockpile of tickets booked on TPE.

Those eligible for 16-18 discount like myself can take advantage of silly fares like £3.85 Newcastle to Leeds [emoji14]

I'd rather have 1st in VEC/VWC where you at least get something tangible for your dosh

Butts. Not every offer is related to First Class. VTEC do not always offer a good First Class service. Please try to understand this.

Regardless, this offer does actually apply to First Class.
