'Spare' Class 158 Vehicles

You were probably supposed to bribe the the border people. That would probably have worked even if that is not what they expected.

I have noticed the Thai 158s drive around with the doors open. They also seem to be formed up of 2 or more driving coaches so I guess the individual coaches can be coupled/uncoupled at will.

This is also true of the UK sets, hence the 3-car 'hybrids' with FGW; ours just look neater since the corridor connection is sealed.

does anyone recall the "spare" Networker carraige that was at one time stored at Barrow hill...

iirc it was just the body shell, no doors or interior... but havent seen or heard anything about that for several years...

I saw in a book on railway workshops a picture of a driving car which IIRC was numbered 165000 and the caption said it was a demonstrator, but I have seen nothing else about it.

June 17th 1996 I was on the old footbridge over Litchurch Lane and saw a 158 bodyshell, I don't recall the number but I thought it was a replacement for a damaged unit, 158862 rings a bell but I may be completely wrong.

I might be able to dig out the picture over the weekend.
