Southern peak services to Guildford

I wouldn't be so pessimistic about the removal of Southern services. A factor that will play into a reintroduction is SWR's December 2022 timetable change. The consultation showed that their Guildford services via Epsom were being reduced to hourly off-peak "in order to reduce congestion [...] as these stations are also served by Southern services."
I'm sure this will cause dissatisfaction among passengers along that line, so some compensation might be arranged between Southern and SWR to minimise disruption.

Southern have lost all route knowledge to Guildford, it’s very unlikely to be viable to restore that as it will incur a significant training cost.

It's quite common for rail consultations to be poorly coordinated, such that they rely on a factor which later changes.

This could be referring to Epsom, Ashtead and Leatherhead and not the through link via Bookham to Guildford.
