Any chance they can be cleared through the Thameslink core, I believe the linespeed on the electrified part of the MML is only 110 anyway.

Doubt it, no end doors. A tunnel down near Folkestone (I think?) had to be modified to permit them, since previously it had all been end-gangway stock like the CEPs VEPs and Electrostars down there.

What about when DLR serve there?

Won't make any difference, the DLR is a separate station. Basically the same situation already exists at Heathrow with the Picc being in zone 6 but the HEX & Connect outside.

Any chance they could make some use of Fawkham Junction and possibly even Waterloo International platforms for 395s? Both would have originally seen use if Eurostar had kept to their original plan of operating out of two London terminals.

Perhaps a rush hour timed service between Ashford and Waterloo calling at Swanley and Bromley South only.

SET should axe the surcharge, allowing more usage today (and, in theory, reducing congestion on the 'old' line). They should also recognise Stratford International (which by all accounts may only ever be used by 395s as Eurostar may not stop there at all) as a regular zoned station - allowing the use of Travelcards.

If Eurostar never does stop there, or does so only as a token gesture every now and then, it really will make a nonsense of the whole station and the special ticketing arrangements.

Give them to Southern for BTN-VIC services and give some of the 442s back :)

I used the High Speed for a family outing on Saturday to Margate and both trains we were on ( 09.42 St Pancras - Margate and 16.53 return ) were more or less fully loaded.

Haven't been on it on a weekday recently so I don't know if loadings have picked up during the week or not since the spring.

I have been on these a few times and the loadings vary like all other services.

As for the pantographs I was talking to one of the drivers when the service first statrd and he reckoned that they could change the settings to allow running on NR lines without problems.

I work for southeasten and i am really anoyed by the fact that the mojority of passangers eathier Saying "DOSE THIS TRAIN GO TO KINGS CROSS" or "IS THIS A JAVERLIN TRAIN".

Its not difficult for people to read the C.I.S system saying ST PANCRUS INTER not kings cross and to lissen to the staff when we say they are not javerlins!!!!!

Also if people could read the C.I.S on the side of the 395's they would see they do not travel to CHX for one i think london bridge would have a size issue on platform 4 and 5 and also why put such a good looking unit in London Charring Cross to get griffitied

On a recent trip from St Pancras to Ashford the gaurd made an announcement saying. Please ignore the CIS the front 6 coaches are going to Dover with your host as Mr Pink and the rear 3 to Margate with myself Mr Blue as your host (along with stations called at). If you are in the wrong portion please change at Ashford. On behalf of SouthEastern railway we apologise for the inaccurate information provided on the trains display.

So you can also understand why passengers check, the CIS is not always correct. The only reason I noticed something was wrong with it before that announcement was the fact it had been 1735 for a long time and we should have left St Pancras at 1742 (were nearly at Ebbsfleet by then)

I will just stick to calling them the daylight robbery trains, but shouldn't really complain as I rarely need to pay the high speed tax anyway.

Actually the APT held the speed record until HS1 at 162.2mph. The 91 holds the UK locomotive speed record of 162mph.

Actually, I was on that train! Unofficially we clocked 162.4 mph in the leading (DVT) cab. Formation was DVT, three mkIVs and Class 91 pushing. We had three goes Grantham to Peterborough under total route occupation 06:00 to 09:00 on a Sunday morning.

We couldn't get top speed on the first two goes, due to the speed restriction at Little Bytham curves. On the third go the PW dept track watchers gave us permission to take the curves at 125 mph and the rest is history....

By the way, I can confirm we would have gone faster but the overpseed in the DVT backed off the tractive effort demand to the Class 91 - an oversight!!

And yes, it was my best cab ride ever....

Uh, they are 6 car units so if 3 coaches are going to some SE destination then there's something seriously wrong!!!

Thats exactly what i was thinking... I'm guessing it was a 12 car train and the rear 6 went somewhere else.

Still I've not been on HS1 for a while, if I were to explore the SE routes and HS1 was preferred are there any routes in particular which can be recommended?

I did Ashford International to Charing Cross and St Pancras to Ashford International but none other then that.

The North Kent coastal line is quite nice ajax103, and you can get all the way to Broadstairs on a 395 in the peaks :) (although if you actually wanted to get there quickly, youd go via Ashford!)

Driver is definitely the way to go as you are clearly not a people person.

If CIS were correct more often then maybe people would trust them more. As someone else described, I too have seen them be incorrect.

Edit: Your profile says you are 19. How many 19/20 year old drivers do we know?

Hmmm; personally I've found the Gravesend gateline staff to be very pleasant and helpful (to date anyway). The nationalrail web site departure board certainly has (or hopefully had) some issues with platform numbering for it though.

My local line the Marshlink from Ashford International to Hastings has quite a lot to interest railway enthusiasts I think with the 171s and single line, its probably also the most rural railway in se england. Theres a lot of good pubs down here too. Both the Kent and east Sussex Railway and the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch railway are in the Rye plus bus area but plan carefully services are pretty thin on the ground.

Why are you so angry that people are calling them Javelin trains when that is what they were 'sold' as back when the order was made??

Do you really think Joe Public will call them 'Class 395s' ?? Have you tried telling customers to get a train by the class?

And I think you're being somewhat pedantic when it comes to the station name, given that for all intents and purposes - thanks to the tube station, it's known by many as King's Cross St Pancras, so why wouldn't someone call it King's Cross? You know it's about a 60 second walk from one to another.

Such sarcasm doesn't seem to fit well with a customer facing job, although I'll apologise if you're a driver and have no desire to talk to the public!

Are spelling skills required for gateline duties?

I am wondering...

Why do they not run the diagrams through as a circular service making all the stops between Faversham and Margate? The long layover at Margate and the shorter layover at Faversham provide sufficient time to do this without requiring additional diagrams don't they?

Not with the signalling headways around there which are 14 and a half minutes slow IIRC.

Could it be done if the hourly Javelin replaced a 375 diagram between Ramsgate and Faversham, giving the same number of trains along the route as at present?

There being a 375 working following the 395 from Ramsgate to Margate about 5 minutes later and carrying on to London via Faversham, if that working ran only to / from Victoria - Faversham instead and the 395 covered the Ramsgate - Faversham sector?

I (admittedly) may be biased here - but the rush hour semi fast 395 services along the North Kent line (through the Medway towns, Faversham etc then on to Broadstairs) currently miss out the minor stops along that line. If there were no 375s going that route, I fear that the rush hour limited stop services would also become all stations (Southeastern have already all but axed fast and semi-fast services on their 'classic' routes) slowing down an already slow link out of London up to Whitstable, Herne Bay etc. :)

Southeastern10,

WIth all due respect, does it really matter if a passenger refers to, for example, St Pancras as Kings Cross? Similarly, I know the trains arent Javelins until 2012 but does it really matter that the public at large prefer to give them this name? After all, it's easier to roll off the tongue than 'Class 395'!

(On another note, is there any way you can spellcheck your posts? Aware you may have dyslexia or similar but it makes your posts quite hard to read :) )
