Son Got Fines

Hi There,

This is my fist forum on the website.

Today my son received a £20 fine for the reason " 00 No ticket" (Invalid ticket detail: Buzzfare Ticket) travelling from Newcastle Central station to Gateshead Station.

He travelled to Newcastle by a bus and purchased an all day ticket for £4.65. However he has a pop card as he is 14 but forgot to take it with him. On the way back he got the metro with his friends. However he thought that an adult all day ticket would work on a metro like the Pop under 16 card does.

So at the stop he got off they were checking tickets he gave them the ticket and they gave him the fine. However his friend whom had bought the same ticket and had lost it on the metro did not received the fine, he only received a yellow card (caution) from the ticket collector.

After he found out his friend only got a caution he asked the collectors why he received a caution and he got a fine, there response was that my son was travling by an adults ticket when hes a child (But he cant get child tickets as he looks older that he is)

So should i appeal and if so how can I

I don't understand what ticket he had or why he got a Penalty fare. I can't find any ticket on the Nexus website for £4.65. There is the Metro day ticket at £4.40 and the Metro, Bus, Rail, Ferry day ticket at £6.80. Is the £4.65 some kind of bus-only pass?

i think it is only a bus only fare from the company GO North East

The £4.65 ticket appears to be a Go North East "buzzfare" 1 zone all day ticket, which I believe is only valid on Go North East buses.

Am I right in thinking your son showed the Buzzfare ticket to the Metro inspectors?

Its probably not any use but the Adult equivalent of the CAT ticket costs £6.80 as a Network One Day Rover

The ticket purchased as mentioned is just for buses operated for Go North East for 1 zone only

An appeal would be unsuccessful. Bus tickets are not valid on the Metro.

The fact another passenger was not issued a penalty fare does not bear upon the validity of your son's.

Pay the £20 and take it as a lesson learned. Remember you have 21 days to pay the £20 before the amount increases.

Should also point out that your son will be able to purchase child tickets with his Pop card very easily, so he should make sure that he has it at all times.
