Has anyone else suddenly noticed that loads of billboards have been put up saying 'some people are gay, get over it!' on them? I noticed the one 'round here was paintballed on the first day of it being put up :neutral:

Hehe That billboard makes me laugh every time I walk down Buxton.

I looked like a bit of an idiot photting it, but oh well!

The boards are about beating homophobia in schools and colleges if I recall correctly.

Speaking of paintballed billboards, there's one on Waterloo Road as you turn left out the station and walk up to bus stop F. Yellow paint still all over the pavement below it. Must have been done overnight as it was not like it yesterday. Didn't really pay any attention as to what it was advertising as there was a bus ready and waiting. Will take a second look at it tonight. Personally I can't really see these advertisements doing much though. Not sure a few words on a billboard could really change my views on some things.

At last, a sign they're happy to put up around the country that's both hard-hitting and eyecatching. I hoppe their campaign actually makes a difference...

I can think of one in Coatbridge, but sadly it's put in a rather silly area (an industrial estate). It probably would spark controversy around here, where homosexuality is still considered a disease by more than a few narrow-minded idiots :roll:

I personally don't care about homosexuality.
I work with 2 people who are openly gay and a girl who used to work with me was a lesbian. A couple of my lady friends are bisexual too (plus they're hot as lava ) so I'm used to being around non-straight people!

By the way, stonewall have only just started doing anything decent, I've not noticed anything they've done that has been helpful, such as all the moaning they did about Queer as Folk, the boss of stonewall doesn't live in the real world, and she got sacked for saying it wasn't realistic, she'd oviously never been to the getto

I am not fussed about anyones sexual preferance, I have a couple of mates who are gay, I work with a woman who is a lesbian...........So what, doesnt make any difference. What I dont like is someone telling me how I should deal with my thoughts towards it. Putting up a few thousand billboards around the country will do nothing positive whatsoever, people are not going to shrug off there homophobic feelings because of that. More likely to react against someone telling them what to do & aim that anger at gay people in this instance.

However I do have a problem with camp gay blokes, since it became more acceptable in sociaty to be openly gay the standards of TV shows has gone down the drain. Seems everything is about tarting up houses & clothes & crap like that now.

What really bugs me is those stereotypical American TV shows that portray all gay men as camp who work in the fashion or design industry, such as that guy on "Ugly Betty" (channel 4). The main aim of these posters though seems to be with combatting bullying & abuse in schools, people whom would be more likely to take account of a message if brought up like that, rather than the older generation.

I'm a big fan of the guy in Ugly Betty.

I think it's okay to use stereotypes in TV. People take the **** out of everything. It's only more annoying because it's stereotyping something that involves you.


I think people need to realise that it's only a stereotype and that not every gay man prances around in designer labels.

GhostCav, same as me, it's bloddy anoying that what me and my other half got the **** kicked out of us for is now stylish, especialy when I didn't know what I was when I was being beaten up for it, then I found myself on the internet. How can it be stylish to be a minority, i'm sure black pepole are a ****ed off with pepole ripping off black culture too. The very very anoying thing is that the one place we can go is no longer a place where we know that everyone there is friendly, the amount of pepole that I've tried to pull that are straght, or that have pulled me to take the **** and see what it's like being gay! I sure as hell don't, can't afford them, nor do I go out every night, abuse drugs and drink too much while eyeing up anything with a puse!

Not that I don't eye pepole up, drink and enjoy myself in other ways, but pepole seem to think I'm ment to act like that every night!

Well, lets see, I've been a cook, IT Technichan, IT Engineer and a Bingo Caller, the only camp one there is Bingo Caller. Well, theres nothing much camp about that one either, since most of my time was spent fixing £40k worth of bingo machines and computers!

I don't really see what's the difference is, if people draw attention to their sexuality or anything for that matter it's asking for a rough time but just leave it act normal every day life then noone will bother.

These billboards say so what i'm going to bring attention to it even more and not going to live normal life. Being gay doesn't make you different, you don't expect girls to go up to gays and ask them out and stuff like that so why gays do it to straights IF they know they are is beyond me.

Bit extreme though these boards for nothing extreme, bit like a "Some people are Brummie, get over it". Just chill about it and live life like everyone else

I don't think it's always fair to say that as well. I work in Customer Services and am always smiling and upbeat when talking down the phone, some might just call it enthusiastic, others camp. Besides there is nothing wrong with wanting to take good care of your health and features through using creams to stop rough skin or eating healthily, some may call someone else camp for doing that, but for some it's just better!

I mostly complain about the people who sold the product to the customer as they're generally at fault. Though saying that, it's amazing what customers do to try & get round us. One common one is applying and getting rejected, then reapplying using (or not using) their middle name and hoping we don't notice!
