These were disconnected during the summer of 2009, I only managed to find one that was working and on my next trip in the same coach it too had been disconnectedScotRail have sockets in the Lounge car (by the sofas)

When travelling on sleepers with my laptop I tend to carry a spare fully charged battery
but if you're seated, you don't get to go in the lounge car anyway, do you?
Correct. No seated passengers allowed to use the lounge car, (rigorously enforced too, I may add).
Even standard class sleeper passengers have to give priority to 1st Class sleeper passengers, which I suppose is fair enough though.
If you can get in there you will find sockets in between the sofas that do work, even North of Edinburgh. Many times I've came from Inverness and had my laptop charging next to me. However, a possible "tip" available to everyone is to get a shaver adapter, and use the shaving socket in the toilets onboard, if you're desperate.

I travelled on quite a few busy southbound services and although the Lounge Car was busy no effort was made to give priority to First Class ticket holdersEven standard class sleeper passengers have to give priority to 1st Class sleeper passengers, which I suppose is fair enough though
