I've heard today that if the driver or guard of a train has been informed that someone is smoking and fails to do anything about it, he/she is liable to a fine of up to £2500. Seems a bit harsh for him or her, rather than the company to be liable.
my school is now plastered in no-smoking stickers:
"it is illegal to smoke in this building"
regardless of the fact its a school
I don't really give a toss about the whole ban thing, if people light up near me I really don't mind, I probably do just as much damage to myself when driving steam locos, seeing as I'm in the direct path of the exhaust smoke, at least its not addictive :?
what I find amusing is all the hype about the ban, when the air around us is still polluted heavily in places. Ironically, Egham Sports Centre has the dirtiest air in the whole of Surrey. This is due to it being sited right next to a motorway. Ummm yes....clever. I also live next to the M25, so the air around my neighbourhood is probably pretty poor. Of course its not so much of a social issue, so the government don't make such a big a deal over it as smoking in public. I'd rather the majority of the air around me was clean, rather than the 10 square foot or so surrounding a smoker.

Got to have non smoking stickers on the footplate of Standard gauge steam locos now....

*runs*As there is a nationwide smoking ban, I have decided to give up myself. So far, I haven't had a cigarette for 8 hours and counting....
I am starting to feel very cranky now, so please don't upset me....
But heres the stupid bit, the council will fine the employee, but won't stop there.
They will fine YOU the employer too!
So how many employers are reporting there employees smoking?
Yep, and yellow warning panels on the frontGot to have non smoking stickers on the footplate of Standard gauge steam locos now....
No, they will only fine the employer if they have failed to prevent smoking. By reporting them to the council, they've done something about it. Hence no fine.
) If it's been reported to them people are smoking behind the sheds, how can they unknowingly have people smoking behind the sheds?

It's unenforcable in Stoke on Trent at the minute if anyone fancies a quick puff in a pub
Seen various people in various places flouting it. I didn't really care before and I still don't, it's not my job to stop people doing it unless it falls within a narrow 8 or 9 hour window of time on a Saturday anyway.
My school installed smoke alarms with thick metal cages protecting themDo you think we could get school done for letting the kids still smoke in the loos?

Not sure entirely on exemptions. Some places are exempt (eg: smoking hotel rooms.) If you report any incidents to the premises manager and he fails to take action then you may want to report the School to the Smokefree compliance line.
The facilities manager (in English, that's take-no-care-taker) put up "No Smoking" signs on-site that he printed off the internet! High quality eh. Then one of the lab technicians was reported for smoking on site...
