I just did. It turns out I'm remarkably like the cake-baking woman, only I sleep a full eight hours once I'm off. Unfortunately, I also get most of my best work done around this time. It's easier to write in the dead of night, probably because it's quieter.
However, I'm not sure it's really a problem. If I was after a regular job, I would try for shift work. It's only a problem when I have to do something during the day for some reason. If that happens, I tend to take melatonin, which can be quite helpful provided I don't take it too often.
It's also a social thing. Reading the
Apollo Flight Journal recently, I noticed that on Apollo 8, where they tried to ensure that there was always someone awake in case something went wrong, all three astronauts were sleep-deprived because that kept the other two awake as well. They decided to build in rest periods for everyone at the same time for the other flights, which resolved the problem.
