Back in BR days, can you imagaine the look on a tickets sellers face when asked for a Penisstone to Ramsbottom ticket!

Or Penistone to Wombwell - and it only takes 20 min to get from one to the other on the Huddersfield - Sheffield service

'Coatbridge Sunnyside' is ironically silly, since Coatbridge is hardly renowned for its weather or its pleasant atmos.

It's named after an area of the town called Sunnyside. Why on earth it's called that I don't know. I can't imagine a more depressing place than Sunnyside to be honest.

Apparently there's a body of water near here called Fanny Burn.

County Durham has a few including No Place and Pity Me.
It does indeed!
Bear Pit is another.

I used to think that 'No Place' was just the default text which some software inserted if the user hadn't entered a Town name in the required format - and then I realised the truth. The Village really is called "No Place" and has a rather well known real ale pub called the "Beamish Mary Inn".

I was asked to distract some excitable young people (how?) while driving them through the southern France village of Condom.

I always giggle at Westward Ho!

There is of course S****horpe for those with the smutty mind.

Indeed there are a number of pit villages in and around the North East with interesting names, including Pity Me and No Place. There is also West Allotment and Cockfield.

I upset a uni mate who was visiting a few years back when I said I was taking him to see Hawes. I've never seen someone look so sad as he nibbled on cheese.

I also like Ecclefechan, and of course just outside Edinburgh...Wallyford.

North of Dorchester in Dorset are the villages of Piddletrenthide and Piddlehinton. Also in the neighbourhood is the River Piddle.
