Silly Place Names?

I was passing through a village yesterday that had a humerous place name, which got me thinking.

Some examples I have got from the UK.

Crapstone, Devon.
****t, Orkney Islands
Bitchfield, Linconshire

From Europe...

Killer, Germany.
Katzenhirn (Cat's Brain), Germany.
Batman, Turkey.
Monster, The Netherlands.
Condom, France.

My personal favourite:

F*cking, Austria. (forum auto-censored!)

I think Sandy Balls is in Hampshire, but I'm not sure if it's actually a town or not.

There is a hill near Bolton Abbey in North Yorkshire called Asick Bottom. Also one above Rochdale called Dick Slack.

There is a farm at Queensbury, Bradford called 'Hole Bottom Farm'. The whole of the Bradford area is awash with rude names TBH. We have the great pairing of Dick Lane and Fanny Street, also Slack Bottom Road, Prod Lane, Muff Street, and next door to the last one there is the incomparable Back Muff Street In Haworth even the geography seems to work in our favour, with Penistone Hill leading directly into Butt Lane!

If you want to include silly street names, there's Amphitrite Street (Barrow-in-Furness), Sneckyeat Road (Whitehaven), and in one of the Notts mining towns (either Creswell or Whitwell there's a Gapsick Lane)

But my absolute favourite is Bast***stown, in Co. Wexford, Ireland

Elmer's End.. no idea where it is, but sounds humorous (I've had a long wait on a train pass quicker by randomly searching for stupid station names at a TVM )

Crossmyloof sounds bizarre as well, almost an insult within a town name only in Strathclyde..

'Coatbridge Sunnyside' is ironically silly, since Coatbridge is hardly renowned for its weather or its pleasant atmos.

Ugh. There are some really stupid place names which really annoy me.

Just to add something to that, my art teacher was called Mr. Painter....

Names of all kinds can be funny!! I still laugh when I hear some DLR stations. I can go from the tropical Island Gardens to sunny Cyprus and then to East India.
