No trains are running between York and Newcastle at the moment due to a total loss of signalling at Darlington

Northern Rail services between Saltburn / Middlesbrough and Bishop Auckland cannot run between Middlesbrough and Bishop Auckland.

VTEC are dragging with 67s via the Coast so things must be desperate.

Seems like some trains were sat outside the station for at least 2½ hours.

2D37 sat on the approach from the Saltburn line for roughly that time, it's only just now gone back to Dinsdale. 1E18 sat on the Up Main outside the station for the same length, it's now just gone into platform 1. 1V66 is still sat outside.

It's those on 2D37 I feel sorry for, if indeed there were people sat on it for that length. Imagine 2½ hours sat idle on a 142? :|

How many are? I can only see 1E21, the only others I can see going via the coast are HST's.

Only know of that one at the moment. That really is a drag taking that route but obviously better than nothing or even a bus!

#VTECUpdate We believe tonight's disruption has been caused by vandalism at Darlington. We're working our hardest to get you moving ASAP!

Quite happily swap places with them...!

Incidentally, if there are signalling problems, why are VTEC still operating with drags?

If they're going via the Durham Coast they can avoid Darlington by leaving the ECML at Northallerton and going via Yarm and Eaglescliffe.

In terms of how are they getting through? Missing the area completely, Newcastle to Northallerton via the Durham Coast, avoiding Darlington.

Vandalism is something i have never understood even as a child/teenager. These days it can often be cable theft though this is thankfully much reduced. NR are their own worst enemy sometimes with such exposed signal/power cables that can be dragged agross rails ready for the next train to kindly cut. As a driver i am suprised the problem isn't more widespread.

Ah, that explains it then... Would there be SSOs put in place for those travelling on those services? And, somewhat related, will the drivers of such delayed trains get overtime payments or would they be relived at a certain place?

1V66 has now made it through and is heading southbound. It sat outside the station for 200 minutes or so.

All traincrew would be paid every minute & some for disruption. Being relieved would only happen in extreme circumstances & then a very slim chance anyone would be available to do it.

So some people are going to get bigger paychecks this month!

In case anybody is wondering, 2D37 has been listed as cancelled on Realtime trains

Trouble is most of us don't want it. We would rather get finished at our booked time or earlier. I personally would love to screw the life of the low life scum who do such things in a revenge attack to see how they like it. Trouble is the chance of them actually doing anything worthwhile such as having a job is very slim wish indeed.

I can understand that... Mind you, if I worked on the railways then I'd pick 2D37 to be stuck on - I LOVE pacers

Effects of this being felt as far as Manchester, I've just boarded what should have been the 1846 from Dewsbury at 1952

I think during disruption XC drivers are expected to work up to half an hour overtime for free, unpaid, gratis etc.

My goodness. Must be on a generous package in the first place. Sure it's several grand more than us poor AGA drivers.

Just travelled back from Accrington to Scarborough. We changed at York.

It was chaos!

The Accrington train came in on platform 4 which is a first for me.

Platform 5 was a nightmare. There was very little information about what was going on. The VTEC/GC trains were heaving and stood at the platform forever presumably waiting for permission to go.

We kept an eye on the Scarborough train - platform 5B, only 7 or 9 minutes late - no problem. Then it disappeared from the board. Cue panic stations! Only one person on the platform 5-10 side to help and he knew nothing. Finally found a Northern employee who was very helpful and said it was now 1911 on platform 5B (tweet sent acknowledging this).

What I saw though was a TPE arriving on platform 4 behind the GC on platform 5. No idea what that was, but then again cue panic when it went up the SCA line - it reappeared on the siding adjacent to Platform 2 about 10 minutes later.

Then a TPE to Middlesbrough turned up. More fun and games as everyone jumped on that before a lot jumped off, including a handful as the doors were closing.

Finally the TPE to SCA arrived. It was a 6 carriage train thankfully so was plenty of room thankfully.

38 minutes late we finally get to SCA.

I understand delays happen - it's the lack of information which was annoying.

With the benefit of hindsight, the delay mentioned earlier may have been unrelated, being an ex-Hull service. Still, it meant I could have had a rare seat on the journey had I not had a big heavy backpack on...

The rest of my journey relies on Yorkshire Tiger, and perhaps surprisingly is running early!

It has caused absolute carnage on XC this afternoon/evening. Both Voyager services I have been on today have been run under 1Zxx headcodes having been turned at York. In fact the first I was on which should have done Glasgow to Plymouth managed Edinburgh to Newcastle only, in original guise

Also, having a 20L service arrive at New Street with the following on the cab boards is not helpful, XC!
