Hi all,
I've applied for a job at GWR that specifies in the job description that the person they are looking for has 'The ability to pass the shunter selection process which includes psychometric assessments'.

Now, I applied for a Shunter position back in May last year and passed the paper assessments and made it all the way to the interview. I'm pretty sure they said if I pass the assessments that I don't have to do these again for 3 years if applying for a Shunter position.

Because the job I am applying for is not a Shunter role (but does involve the safe movement of trains) does this mean I have to (if invited) do the assessments again? Or because it's essentially the same tests I should be exempt from sitting these again?

I believe it’s a Depot Driver position(?), therefore you’ll have to do all the psychometric assessments as they’re the Driver assessments rather than specific to Shunters. As these are the same as for drivers trough, you can use them again should you want to go mainline within 2-5 years, even if you don’t get this job but pass the assessments if that makes sense?

No it's a maintenance support job, so doubt they'll be any moving of trains myself. The last Shunter position I went for also didn't require you to move trains, but it's the same test regardless. It's no real bother to be honest if I had to do it all over again, but it would be nice to avoid these tests! It's more the booking the awkward time off work...

Oh right, fair enough. I just know they recently advertised for depot drivers or Maneuverers so put 2 and 2 together (and hit 5...) ;)

Ha, no worries. So on that basis would you still say I would need to do the assessments again? Or would they see I passed the last time and say jobs a goodun?

It’s usually the case that if the assessment is for a specific role and said assessments are the same nationally, you can use the results for any TOC/FOC. Much the same way as you can with driver assessments and Signaller assessments.

Well it looks like they do recognise previous assessments as I had an email today to say if I am shortlisted the next stage is the interview!
