Having watch the first two of Paul Merton's series, I was contemplating if, with modern technology there would be any merit in turning some more of our lesser used stations into request stops.
I can imagine there are an awful lot of stations around the country where the station gets a significant number of passengers at the morning and evening peaks, but during the day and in the evenings trains regularly stop with no-one embarking or alighting.
Purely for a more energy efficient operation it would make sense if trains didn't stop unless they had to.
Equally there are some stations which receive no stopping service on a Sunday despite having regular trains passing through. I see no reasons why some stations couldn't be request stops on a Sunday. After all the country is rapidly becoming a 24/7 society, and Sundays are no longer seen as special by many.
