Acton Main Line is good to go!
They should have renamed it Acton Elizabeth when they were redoing all the line diagrams. Acton Main Line was always a stupid name, even more now that it has nothing but TfL services.

Agree it's a silly name however when it comes to the Elizabeth line this is par for the course. Personally I'd have gone with North Acton which works geographically and fits well with the surrounding West Acton, South Acton, Acton Central and Acton Town.

Only one slight problem with that ;)

Ah I didn't spot that on the map, too many Actons!

Hmm, how about Acton Horn Lane?
Yes, Acton Horn Lane or Acton Poet's Corner would be more appropriate. Even dropping Acton completely to just 'Horn Lane' could potentially be better.
Main Line is such a silly name - especially as TfL are trying to trick the public into thinking Crossrail its not a mainline railway system!

AFAIK Poets Corner is the part of Acton just north of Acton *CENTRAL* where the roads are named after poets, I don't think it stretches as far as Acton Main Line.

You are correct but the whole area between Acton Central and Main Line is commonly referred to as Poets Corner

How is it stupid considering the station is actually on the Great Western Main Line?

Well anything's better than Acton Main Line. I wouldn't blame anyone for thinking you can interchange with the Great Western main line here, except you can't

Why is Acton Main Line a stupid name? It's a literal fact, it's on the main line through Acton. Given Acton's stations claim all the other compass points as well as the railway go-to's of central and town, it rather limits the options.

Yes if every compass point hadn't already been used in Acton! You've already got N/E/W/S/C & Town. So the question is what you name it to and it would likely be just as odd an option. So it's a bit weird, but it's been that way for many years now and just because a new operator has appeared, doesn't make it needs renaming. It is on the "main line" in terms of being a station on one of the major routes into London & even if intercity trains don't stop there, it's not technically incorrect and is used as a differentiatior for the heavy rail network.

Acton Relief Line? After all, it don’t have a platform on the mains
It has 1 platform on the Up Main.

It doesn't *need* renaming, but the GW were fond of the 'General' suffix  Personally, I'd be rather call it Acton Crossrail, as that accurately describes it's purpose and service without suggesting you can get 'main line' trains to faraway places.

In a perfect world, perhaps. But I’m not sure it’s worth the bother. Solution looking for a problem is my view.

Taking into account stations and junctions, Acton must have the greatest number of railway locations in the country.

Acton Main Line, on the Main Line. Kind of does what it says on the tin.

If anything, Woolwich should've had the 'Elizabeth' suffix. Silly having Arsenal and Dockyard, and then just having 'Woolwich'.

In a practical sense, Network Rail has previously quoted ~£200,000 to rename a station (announcements, maps, signage etc). Source.

For what it's worth, Acton Main Line is good enough if that's the cost. Not like it's an out of date name or misleading.

Wembley must be up there, and Willesden still has a fair few locations.
Roughly from north to south Acton has:-
Acton Canal Wharf Jn.
Acton Wells Jn.(s)
North Acton Stn.
North Acton Jn.
Acton Main Line Stn.
East Acton Stn.
Acton Central Stn.
South Acton Stn.
Acton Town Stn.
Acton Town North Jn.
Acton Works
In addition there used to be:-
Acton Lane Stn.
Acton Coal Yard
Acton Engine Shed
Acton Gatehouse Jn.
Acton Lane Jn.
Acton Curve
Acton Town South Jn.

If the station had closed at the same time as the GW platforms at Royal Oak, and was only now being reopened as part of CrossElizPurpleTrain, I'm sure that TfL would come up with a better name than Acton Main Line. Not really worth doing now though, unless those turning up expecting to catch a train to Penzance turn out to be in hundreds rather than only in the head of pedants on a railway forum.

Where was Acton Lane station? Chiswick Park opened as Acton Green station.
