You are correct but the whole area between Acton Central and Main Line is commonly referred to as Poets Corner
Isn't that an estate agent's thing to extend the 'desirable' bit? Poet's corner has roads with poets' names, period, doesn't it?
Horn Lane sounds good to me - it's also used on buses.

Lost Acton ? Nearly Acton? Was that Acton?

I think Horn Lane is the winner for me too. Not sure it even needs Acton in it - keep it simple!

Horn Lane is a long road, parts of which have North Acton, Acton Central or Acton Town as nearest station. The area appears to be called Friary Park, but there is another Friary Park in North Finchley, so Acton Friary Park would work, or just Acton Friary.

Are there any technical reasons why TfL didn’t use the opportunity to rename the station?

The station remained open throughout for traffic and so changing all the IT systems would have been quite disruptive. It's perfectly possible, but does add to the cost (nearly every system carries a fee from the maintainer to process any change).

Acton Crossrail would work (naming it after the route rather than the operator: e.g. West Hampstead Thameslink, which didn't change to West Hampstead First Capital Connect)

I doubt this would be an option given then move away from naming anything 'Crossrail'.
