Thanks. There's quite a lot we can work out from the letter (in particular, it's from GTR, who are one of the train companies that it's possible to negotiate with - that's good news. Although I didn't think they operated into St Pancras?<edit> explained below - makes sense now</edit>) but (as I see @John R has just asked) it would help if you could tell us why you were pulled over, and what happened.

on that day I was coming from Gatwick airport to the folkestone and I dont have the valid ticket on that time as I just bought the ticket near the london st pancras in order to barrier to be opened.
I am really ashamed about that as I know it was wrong so I dont know what to reply

They stopped me on the London st pancras and asked me to show the ticket where the officer gave me witness statement and now I received this letter

Presumably you were stopped at the St. Pancras Thameslink station. Unfortunately for you, GTR are well aware that some passengers just buy tickets from a nearby station to avoid paying for the whole journey. They have set up systems to detect this and you were caught.

Have you done this before? Presumably you bought the ticket online and GTR will check your previous ticket buying to see if you have done it more than just once.
I'm mentioning this because you need to be honest with GTR to get the best outcome for yourself.

Yes I did it before may be 3 4 times as well but I am not pretty much sure

Search for posts on here by member Hadders who regularly suggests some points to make in your apology.
Fortunately GTR are consistently willing to agree to settle out of court, but you should be prepared to pay the full single fare for each time they identify when you have cheated, plus an admin charge of at least £60.

Presumably you were stopped at the St. Pancras Thameslink station.

Pedantry alert. Although Thameslink has dedicated platforms the station name is the same as for the other 3 parts, London St Pancras International.

Adapt it for your circumstances, don’t just copy it however.

I am so sorry for this awful mistake. I am ashamed of what I did. I short-fared my Thameslink journey, booking a return ticket via Trip.com just to get through St Albans barriers both ways and travel to Farringdon, which has no barriers. I have done this three times before and wasn’t caught...

With regard to your written response - when you send it take a copy for yourself of every page of what you send, then post it using tracked postage from a post office so that you can be sure that it arrived with them if you ever need to prove that


Regarding the info you are giving them about your change of address - this is the only bit of info they do allow you to e-mail them for - so you could send that by e-mail (as well as in your posted reply)

you would e-mail that to
gtr.prosecutions@gtrailway.com

But that is the only thing you can send by e-mail to them

You could just send this as below for the change of address

Please could you type your draft and post it here for suggestions. You can then print the final version on a separate sheet, including the case reference, and attach it to the response form. Just write "see attached reply" on the form.

The person reviewing your reply will thank you for making it easy to read (and a single side of paper)

Whilst I do agree that it would have been easier had the draft response been posted here for comment / check before being written on the original response documents, having looked at what has been handwritten and uploaded I don't think it needs significant editing so it may simply be easier for the OP to now keep a copy of this for their records and send off what they have written as their reply using a tracked postal service.

Of course it is up to the OP how they wish to proceed now.

If this reply does not work to obtain an out of court settlement offer then they can of course come back here for more advice on what their next steps might be.
