If the member of staff has already stated the issue then why would you come here accusing them of lying by asking for 'the truth'?

RTT has them showing as PG emergency pre-2200 "PPM Protection" cancellations, NRE shows trains should be running Tulse H - E Croydon via Streatham.

Southern Website: Sunday 15th June Due to a staff shortage there will be no services between Clapham Junction and Watford Junction & East Croydon and Tulse Hill. Passengers are able to use London Midland from Euston, London Overground from Clapham and London Underground between Victoria and London Euston. London Buses are also accepting Southern tickets between Streatham, Crystal Palace and Tulse hill via reasonable routes.

Which doesn't seem to involve any sheep!

The nearest sheep I've ever seen to West Croydon are in a farm visible to the north side of the line from the train between Ewell East and Epsom. that's about 10 miles away...

Being familiar with the West Croydon area, it's not particularly rural. :roll:

I think it's quite amusing.

Clearly the person you asking didn't know but decided to leaven the situation with a little bit of humour by saying something that is clearly ridiculous that no-one would believe. I've done similar myself a few times and it works quite well.

To the best of my knowledge, only wild sheep would be permitted in the parks and open spaces (e.g. Wandle Park) near West Croydon, and I am 99.9999% sure there aren't any of those! Displaying sheep kept for commercial reasons, putting in place any facilities they required, or annoying the public with your sheep appear to all be Croydon Parks By-Laws offences.

In other words, either a train was displaced due to striking sheep a long way away or due to being delayed by them earlier, or this is indeed a joke (in which case, well done to the member of staff - it's kept a few of us amused for a little while)!

almost as good as the famous eurostar incident, signaller there is a horse with pantograph on its head on the line between swanley and fawkingham junction lol. Obviously he meant a deer.

It's only ever a problem if there is more than 6 sheep though! trains run normally otherwise!

He did - he just couldn't remember the translation so used the best descriptive language he could.

I was brought up on a farm within the London Borough of Sutton, probably less than 5 miles from West Croydon.
Had my photo in the local paper aged 13 displaying sheep at a banstead show which caused about 6 months worth of bullying at school. In the end couldn't stand the smell of townies so moved to Romney marsh.

You have a good point - there are still a few decent pockets of farmland only a few miles away, but to be fair, though, I can't really imagine a significant number of sheep grazing in any of the open areas specifically around West Croydon. Most are either parks or recreation grounds.

Of course your right. In most cases it was the railways that caused the urban sprawl that destroyed the farmland. Its noticeable in the South that this is particularly bad alongside the early electrification schemes.
