Bristol and Glasgow were great 18th century trading ports.
There are very few motorways in the country that start with the number 3 (I can think of 4); Bristol is served by one (M32); Basingstoke is served by another (M3).

Theres good reason for that, not many motorways exclusively in Zone M3
And before you ask, the M27 penitrates Zone 2 so cannot be Zone 3 as you can't have a lower zone penitrate a higher zone except in special cases, it also starts in Zone 2.
Since the only motorways in Zone 3 are the M5 (This becomes in zone after the M4), M27, M32, Part of a sliproad for the M48, M49 (Don't get me started!), and M271 (That should technically be M3x), and dorset, devon and cornwall lacking motorways somwhat, there isn't really any need for any more Zone 3 motorways, asside from perhaps the A303(M) / M30
PS: After tha M3 and M32, what are the other two?
A38M and A3M don't count...

Well if you count motorways in the format Ax(M), there are six:
M3

A3(M)
A38(M)

A329(M)
The A303 should become M30...

Really off topic here now, but if the A555 isn't going to become either M56 or M60 then you've got no chance with the A303... When they do finish the A555 (funding was announced last I heard) it is an opertunity to take a shed tonne of traffic off the M56 and M60 through Stockport and end a situation where 4 lanes of traffic all cram into three and take a sharp right at Bredbury. And as a PS to that, if it's only the A555 to be done and motorwayed, I'd number it as the M56, run from J5 Manchester Airport, J4A Manchester Airport E, Junction 4 Handforth, Junction 3 A34, Junction 2 A6, Junction 1 Marple Road / Doodley Lane, Junction (No number) Bredbury (M60 J25) or if you wanted more junctions for other less major routes, then you'd need a new number, or re-number all the way to Chester from Bredbury... Current M56 becomes M560 between Airport and Stockport, the numbering is to encourage the use of the shiney new bypass route...

Quite a good one, though interspersed with a colourful map commentary.....I shall endeavour to keep the Welsh connection.
Llanfairpwll has a railway station near to where the railway crosses the Menai Straits on the Brittannia Bridge.....whilst Morfa Mawddach has a railway station near to where the railway crosses the Afon Mawddach on the Barmouth Bridge
Llanfairpwll and Bangor are on opposing sides of the Menai Straight.
Both Llandudno and Blackpool have tramways.

You might expect Bournemouth to be at the mouth of the River Bourne, but there isn't one really, it's just a little stream that goes through the gardens past the bandstand. Avonmouth, however, is at the mouth of a river worthy of the name.

1120 Chiltern service from Stratford upon Avon to Leamington Spa arr.1150
1200 XC service from Leamington Spa to Reading arr.1307
1332 FGW service from Reading to Guildford arr.1408
