The Church of the Ascension, Whixley dates back to at least the 12th and 14th centuries. It was closed for 16 months between 1861 and July 1862 for renovations carried out by Sir George Gilbert Scott (1811 – 1878), which cost £2,949 (equivalent to £310,000 in 2025). A later renovation by Scott (in 1864) was St Leonard's Church, Yarpole, Herefordshire.

The statue of David Lloyd George (MP for the Caernarfon Boroughs between 1890 to 1945) in Castle Square, Caernarfon was sculpted by W Goscombe John (1860 – 1952) and was erected in 1921 when Lloyd George was prime minister. Another notable statue by John is the memorial at Port Sunlight to the 500 plus employees of Lever Brothers Ltd who had died in the First World War; this was also unveiled in 1921.
