Fenniscowles is on the route of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. Further west, i.e. towards Liverpool, is the White Bear Marina, Adlington which is the largest marina on the canal.

Gawsworth in Cheshire East was also once administered by the Hundred of Macclesfield.

St James' Church, Gawsworth contains a ring of eight bells. Six of these were cast between 1856 and 1890 at the Whitechapel Bell Foundry, Tower Hamlets.

The name "Tower Hamlets" originally referred to a Liberty in the historic county of Middlesex. Another and better known Liberty in London is the Liberty of the Clink, in Southwark.
