If you drive along the A470, from Aberfan, you can visit Commins Coch (Welsh: Comins-coch) in the county of Powys in Wales.

Commins Coch was the site of one of the 228 arson attacks against English owned holiday cottages carried out between 1979 and 1992 by Meibion Glyndwr, a militant Welsh nationalist group committed to direct action. The last of these attacks was on a house called Rose Cottage in Gwalchmai, Anglesey.

Hadrian's Wall stretches from Wallsend in the East to Bowness-on-Solway in the West.

The two original bells from St Michael's Church, Bowness-on-Solway were stolen by border raiders in 1626 who accidently dropped them in the Solway during their flight. In retaliation, the villagers raided Dornock and Middlebie in Scotland, making off with a new pair of bells. Traditionally, on inception, the vicar of Annan petitions the village's neighbours for the return of his bells.

Middlebie was the site of Blatobulgium, one of the Roman forts built to control the area north of Hadrian's Wall. Another much larger one was Trimontium at Newstead, Scottis Borders.
