Old St Andrew's Church, Kingsbury, is a Romanian Orthodox and former Anglican Church. It is a Grade I listed building and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust, the national charity protecting historic churches at risk. Another similarly named church in the care of the Trust is St Andrew's Church, another former Anglican church in the Brunswick Town area of Hove, Sussex.

The Roman Catholic Church of St Anne, Wappenbury was built in 1849, on a site given by Lord Clifford; it is in the Archdiocese of Birmingham. During the Second World War the priest was William Purcell Witcutt (1908–1972), who was a notable British religious minister, folklorist and author. He was born into the Anglican church, converted to Catholicism in the early 1930s, and returned to the Church of England in the mid-1950s. During the latter period, he served as the Rector of Foulness Island (or Foulness) a short while after it had been badly affected by the great North Sea Flood in 1953.

West Woodburn lies on the line of Dere Street or Deere Street, a Roman road which linked Eboracum (York) to the area around Din Eidyn (Edinburgh), and thus later England to Scotland; the route is now the A68 road. The same Roman road passes through the village and civil parish of Rochester.

William George Drummond Stewart VC (1831 – 1868) was was the son of Captain Sir William Drummond Stewart, 19th Laird of Grantully and 7th Baronet of Murthly, and his wife Maria Christina (née Battersby) who was born at Grandtully Castle. In 1857, Stewart was 26 years old and a captain in the 93rd (Sutherland) Highlanders when he was awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions at Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny. He was promoted Major but left the Army in 1860. On 19 October 1868, while at Hythe, Hampshire, Stewart was giving a demonstration of sword swallowing; his trick went fatally wrong and he died from internal injuries a week later, on 26 October.

Foulridge has been part of Lancashire since the Middle Ages, and was about 1.5 miles from the boundary of the old West Riding of Yorkshire. With the creation of the Borough of Pendle in 1974, parts of Yorkshire, including Barnoldswick were transferred to Lancashire, and Foulridge moved further away from the White Rose County.
