John Alexander Brodie (1858 – 1934) was an English civil engineer. He was especially known for his contribution to town planning in Liverpool, notably as one of the engineers who led the design of the Mersey Tunnel under the River Mersey. As an interesting aside to the previous posting, he is also known for inventing the netting for football goals in 1889.

Daresbury was the birthplace of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (also known as Alice in Wonderland) author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (1832 – 1898), in All Saints' Vicarage. When he was 11, his father was given the living of Croft-on-Tees, North Yorkshire, and the whole family moved to the spacious rectory, which remained their home for the next 25 years.
