Castle Combe in Wiltshire also has a church that is dedicated to St Andrew.
Why am I just a little sceptical about this marvellous -- and entertaining -- recitalShin-kicking, also known as shin diggings or purring, originated in England in the early 17th century. Shin kicking was one of the most popular events at the Cotswold Olimpick Games from 1612 until the Games ended in the 1850s. When the Games were revived, in 1951, the sport was included as the World Shin-Kicking Championships and remains one of its most popular events, drawing crowds of thousands of spectators. The event is held at Chipping Camden, Gloucestershire.
The parish of Upper and Lower Quinton has a church dedicated to St. Swithin; as also has Lincoln.Upper Quinton in Gloucestershire was also once administered by the Hundred of Kiftsgate.
No need to apologise. It can be most enlightening when you participate in this game. https://olimpickgames.co.uk/shin-kicking/Why am I just a little sceptical about this marvellous -- and entertaining -- recital? In course of taking part in this game, I quite often chance upon stuff in Wiki articles, varying from unlikely- to crazy-sounding; which I'm convinced gets "sneaked in past the guardians" by frolicsome folk who fancy a laugh ... if the above material is indeed the solemn and sober truth: my sincere apologies.
Egham was home to a large research centre for Proctor & Gamble. One of their current products is Fairy washing-up detergent. Fairy was originally produced by Thomas Hedley Co (until 1927) at Newcastle upon Tyne, until that company was taken over by P&G.Artist Beryl Cook (1926-2008), renowned for her paintings of jolly Rubenesque ladies out on the razzle, is associated with Plymouth, her home for many years and the place of her death; she was born in Egham, Surrey.
My thanks ! To be honest, it was the bit about the Cotswold Olimpick Games initiated in 1612, which had me raising my eyebrows; but after all -- although the modern Olympic Games became a real-world event less than a century-and-a-half ago: 17th-century classicists would have known all about ancient Greece's Olympic Games ...No need to apologise. One of my "easy get-outs": Newcastle-upon-Tyne is twinned with Atlanta in the US State of Georgia. The only other twinning between anywhere else in that State, and in the British Isles is -- so far as I can find out -- between Craigavon, Co. Armagh; and La Grange, Georgia.Egham was home to a large research centre for Proctor & Gamble. One of their current products is Fairy washing-up detergent.
