Further church-dedication stuff, hopefully acceptable. Such dedication at Bonchurch is -- as one might expect from the name -- to St. Boniface (and St. Boniface Down is "hard by"; and as with St. Lawrence and its saint, Bonchurch has in fact two St. Boniface's Churches, Old and New). There is also a St. Boniface's Church in Quinton (suburb of Birmingham).
Oddly enough, early this month there was a short thread in which St. Boniface and the IOW "Bon"-places, showed up -- on "Railway History and Nostalgia", of all places. It was wondered whether anyone knew why, "back in the day", the Garsdale -- Hawes branch train was nicknamed Boniface, or Bonnyface. General consensus seemed to be, that the name was probably non-hagiographic.
