This association relates to "lost crowns of Olde England" . . .
The vicinity of Sutton Bridge is believed to be the location where King John's Crown Jewels were lost in marshland following a nasty wagon train accident in 1216. So far, those jewels have not been recovered.
Another settlement in eastern England associated with lost crowns (this time one of the fictional Saxon crowns protecting England from invaders which features in M.R. James' ghost story A Warning to the Curious) was the coastal town of "Seaburgh" - a thinly-disguised manifestation of the Suffolk town of Aldeburgh.
