This latter mythical beast's most renowned heraldic role, is as the emblem of Singapore. That settlement's first British governor, Sir Stamford Raffles, 1781 -- 1826 (he after whom is named the island-states's venerable and famous Raffles Hotel) attended school in Hammersmith; in what is now the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
