Adjacent to Colsterworth, and now indistinguishably incorporated in it, is the formerly separate hamlet of Twyford. There is another, better-known, Twyford in Berkshire, near Reading.

Around the year 2010, gold torcs (bracelets) from the Bronze / Iron Ages, of much archaeological value: were found at Towton; and at Corrard, near Maguiresbridge, Co. Fermanagh.

The River Moy -- on which lies Ballina, Co. Mayo -- is also reckoned one of Ireland's best angling venues.

Sorry....I'm not quite sure of the connection between Ballygawley and the River Moy. :s

Per Wiki, the Ballygawley River at Ballygawley -- tributary, I would guess of the Blackwater -- is reckoned to furnish some of the finest freshwater fishing in Ireland. Looking for other great fishing places in that island, I came upon the Moy in Co. Mayo -- apparently, great for salmon. In quest of a relevant settlement, I hit upon Ballina. Don't know what other participants might think to these mental processes: should the general feeling be that this connection / association is "dodgy", I'll scrap the post concerned, and we can do whatever seems best.

OK. I'm with you now....thanks for the explanation! Slightly tenuous perhaps, but there's probably not a lot more to say about Ballygawley unless you want to delve deeply into the dark amd tragic history of the Northern Ireland 'troubles'. Let's continue from there.

Fine -- agreed, not one of my better efforts; and I should have explained more fully in my post # 28,627. (There is in fact a certain amount to say about Ballygawley on railway themes: the 3ft. gauge Clogher Valley Railway; and a previous plan for a "short line" to Ballygawley from Dungannon, which came to naught -- but of course, the whole point of this game is  ...)

Not being well at the present time (yet again!!!) but as a brief aside, in my railway archives, I still have the hardback book on the Clogher Valley Railway by E dward M. Patterson that my late wife bought for me in 1976 on our first wedding anniversary.

Sorry you'e feeling less than great -- hope better very soon. A lovely memento ! I have that book myself. That Clogher Valley Railway must have been a delight -- strikes me as the absolute archetypal rural steam roadside tramway. No way it could have survived to today -- at very best, in form of short preserved stretch, which in itself I feel would need a somewhat different time-line; but oh to have known it.

Yes, sorry to hear that you are not feeling so well....hope you feel better soon.

Continuing with the game....former Irish President and United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights Mary Robinson (nee Bourke) was born in Ballina. She commenced her university education at Trinity College, Dublin, before crossing the pond to Harvard for her post-grad degree.

The Grand Union Canal passes close to Yelvertoft, and there is a marina of the same name there. Further south, the canal also passes near to the village of Crick, which also has a marina.

Mountain Ash is the location of the annual Nos Galan five kilometre road race held on New Year's Eve. It celebrates the life and achievements of the Welsh runner Guto Nyth Bran and starts with a church service at St Gwynno's Church, Llangwynno, where he is buried.

My turn to tell of puzzlement and seek enlightenment: I'd never heard of Llangwynno -- and seemingly, nor have the Internet, nor atlas gazetteers. Clarification respectfully requested...

Celebrated Welsh author and broadcaster Gwyn Thomas is buried in St Gwynno's churchyard in Llanwonno. He was born at Cymmer in the Rhondda Valley.

Cymmer was afflicted by a coal-mine disaster in 1856. Felling, Tyne and Wear (near Gateshead) also suffered several of such in the earlier 19th century.

There are a handful of other Dunstons in England, as well as the Tyne and Wear one: for example, Dunston in Staffordshire -- a little way south of Stafford.

Around the turn of the 19th / 20th centuries, Bilston's coal mines were reputedly haunted by an evil spirit: to deal with which, the miners engaged the services of a local exorcist called The White Rabbit. The city of Nottingham has nowadays a posh dressmaking "Bespoke Design and Apparel Sampling Studio" called "Love White Rabbit".
