Mytchett features a quite numerous British Nepalese community. Wednesbury, West Midlands, has a Nepalese restaurant by the name of Gurkha 1816.

David Daker, the actor, was born in Bilston. He played PC Owen Culshaw in Z-Cars, which was set in Liverpool.

In the rather "near-the-knuckle" sea song The Fireship (involving Jack Tar and a certain medical problem): "Pretty Polly from merry Portsmouth town" is involved; and the chorus mentions Ratcliff Highway, the main thoroughfare of Wapping (London Borough of Tower Hamlets).

Tyburn takes its name from the local Tyburn Brook -- name from Old English Teo Bourne = "boundary stream". A "boundary stream" of a rather greater magnitude is the River Tweed, which for some fifteen miles divides Scotland (Scottish Borders) from England (Northumberland). On this stretch of the river is Ladykirk alias Upsettlington; with Norham its "oppo" on the English side.

Norham is now in Northumberland, but until 1844 was part of Norhamshire, a detached part of County Durham. Another such exclave of Durham until 1844 was the North Yorkshire village of Crayke.

Crayke's pub is called the Durham Ox -- maybe some connection with the place's one-time exclave status? There is a pub of the same name at Longridge, Lancashire (north-east of Preston).

The castle of Caernarfon has also appeared on one of a set of UK stamps with the "castles" theme.

Virginia Water, Surrey -- especially the lake thereat -- has been another location for some filming of the Harry Potter movies.

Settlements in Wales called "Capel ('something')" are legion; and there are more of such in England, than one might expect. One is Capel-le-Ferne, Kent (near Folkestone).

I find Kent a strange place in various ways -- one of which being, a bit of a tendency toward highly "basic vocabulary" place names. Thus, Alkham and the nearby village of River, together form a local-government "ward"; and some way north-westward, most of the way to Canterbury, is the village of Bridge.

Richborough is on the site of the Roman settlement of Rutupiae. Another English settlement on the site of a Roman one beginning with R, is Leicester -- Roman Ratae (if one wants to be really "precious", Ratae Corieltauvorum).

Liverpool also has two cathedrals: Armagh -- Catholic, and Church of Ireland; Liverpool -- Catholic, and Church of England; but with different dedicatees; both of Armagh's are dedicated to St. Patrick.

Sir Thomas Henry Hall Caine (1853 -- 1931) -- author, poet, dramatist and critic -- was born in Runcorn. He is identified above all else, with the Isle of Man (his father was Manx) -- probably his best-known work, the novel The Manxman (publ. 1894), is set on that island. Hall Caine lived for the latter part of his life at Greeba Castle, near St. John's, I.O.M.

Tynwald Hill, St. John's, the original assembly place for the Isle of Man parliament, Tynwald, is the scene of the annual ceremony in which the laws of the Isle of Man are promulgated in English and Manx, usually on 5th July. Tynwald, or more formally, the High Court of Tynwald or Tynwald Court, consists of two chambers, known as the branches of Tynwald: the directly elected House of Keys and the indirectly chosen Legislative Council. When the two chambers sit together, they become "Tynwald Court". The chambers sit jointly on Tynwald Day at St John's for largely ceremonial purposes, and usually once a month in the Legislative Buildings in Douglas.

Liverpool has links to Douglas, firstly the Ferry, and secondly the Bee Gees' 1967 Christmas broadcast live from the Anglican Cathedral (the Bee Gee brothers were born in Douglas)
