Winchburgh has a pub called the Tally Ho (a quintessentially English expression, one would have thought ...). Aswarby, Lincolnshire -- near Sleaford -- has a pub of the same name.

The linguists tell us that Kelmarsh's name comes from the Anglo-Saxon for "marsh marked out by poles or posts" -- with a slight touch of Old Norse in the initial "K". The very similar name of Chelmarsh, Shropshire -- just south of Bridgnorth -- is reckoned to have the identical meaning; just with the alternative "Ch" beginning. (General picture got, of the Norsemen having had on the whole, more of a presence further east in Great Britain.)

The annual Anglesey Oyster and Welsh Produce Festival takes place at Trearddur Bay. It has a counterpart on the other side of Britain: the annual North East Oyster Festival, held at Sedgefield, County Durham (a little way inland; but there's no law to say ...)

Cartmel is the location of L' Enclume - one of the small number of Michelin 3-star-rated restaurants in Britain.

Another Michelin 3-star restaurant (media celebrity Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck) is in the Berkshire village of Bray.

The designer and writer William Morris lived at Kelmscott Manor from 1871 until his death in 1896. He also had a London house which he renamed Kelmscott House. It was in the district of Hammersmith. At Upper Mall, also in Hammersmith, he set up a printworks called The Kelmscott Press.

The war poet Wilfred Owen wrote a poem called “Shadwell Star”. He was born very near to Oswestry.

Bersham is regarded as one of the 'cradles of the industrial revolution' on account of its pioneering role in large-scale production of iron.

Another important site in the early industrial revolution - this time for textile manufacture - is Cromford in Derbyshire.

Langley Mill has a pub called the Bunny Hop Ale House. The pub in the village actually named Bunny (Nottinghamshire -- not that far from Langley Mill, just on the other side of Nottingham city) is the Rancliffe Arms.

Rhoscrowther in Pembrokeshire also has a church that is dedicated to St Decuman.

Said church at Rhoscrowther is in the care of the Friends of Friendless Churches (which might seem to suggest that it has largely lost its congregation?). That body has also recently made possible, major repairs to St. Mary's Church at Mundon, Essex -- just south of Maldon. (Not many weeks ago, I was unaware of the existence of the FoFC. They are certainly proving useful for this game !)

Bawdeswell's All Saints' Church was destroyed in World War II -- an "own goal", involving an RAF Mosquito bomber's unfortunately crashing into the village in November 1944. A somewhat similar situation affected a church in the same county, earlier in the war: St. Benedict's Church, Norwich, very badly damaged in an enemy air raid in January 1942; only the tower survives.

North Warnborough in Hampshire also possesses restaurant which was originally a water mill. (I can recommend the Hampshire restaurant but haven't been to the Norfolk one)
