The people of Arundel are sometimes known as "Mullets"; owing to the presence of that kind of fish, in the local river Arun. Bradford-on-Avon, Wiltshire, is identified with a different species of fish -- the gudgeon: thanks to a copper-gilt weather vane in the shape of one such, on top of the town's lock-up which is situated in the middle of the town bridge over the Bristol Avon.

St Laurence's Church, Bradford-on-Avon is one of very few surviving Anglo-Saxon churches in England that does not show later medieval alteration or rebuilding. The arcading on the exterior walls is produced, not by incision (as thought by the noted architectural historians Jackson and Fletcher), but by setting the massive stone pilaster-strips forward from the wall-face. In this they are similar to the tower of St Mary the Virgin Church, Tasburgh in Norfolk.

Roughton, Norfolk, also lies on the A140 road: a mile or so from its convergence with the A149, south of Cromer.

East Budleigh has many associations with Sir Walter Raleigh; who in 1580, during the then hostilities in Ireland, took part in the siege of Smerwick (Co. Kerry, in the Dingle peninsula).

Edinburgh is also twinned with a settlement in the French departement of Alpes-Maritimes. Kinsale's "twin" is Antibes; Edinburgh's is Nice.

Epsom (Surrey) also has a pub called the Blenheim; after the Duke of Marlborough's victory in 1704.

The first large-scale production of penicillin took place in the deep culture tanks at Clevedon, of the Medical Research Council's Antibiotic Research Station -- just in time for World War II. The prime mover in this was the pharmacologist and pathologist Howard Florey (1898 -- 1968); born in Australia, died in Oxford.

Canterbury, Kent, was also a target of the German "Baedeker" air-raids in 1942: planned as an attempt to hurt British morale / lessen British bombing of Germany, by targeting recognisedly beautiful / historic cities.

The only survivor still in place, of Sandwich's town gates: is the Fisher Gate, dating from 1384; it is scheduled as an ancient monument. In an instance of resemblance in nomenclature: York has a street called Fishergate.

Bradley in the Moors in Staffordshire was also once administered by the Hundred of Totmonslow.

Wiki comes up with a bit of a mystery concerning the above-bolded settlement. It indicates that this Bradley's only son (or daughter) of any degree of fame, is a musician called Pete McArdle -- references thence on Wiki lead seemingly not to this gentleman; but to a remarkable assortment of Peter McArdles or McCardles, from various parts of the world, and with -- non-musical -- occupations varying from runner to footballer to long-ago local government official. Anyway -- for what it's worth, we are told that the musician Pete McArdle at some stage left his native hamlet and settled in Birkenhead.
