Both Manchester; and Stanley, Perthshire; happen to bear the same names as the surnames of two individuals from times past, who were -- among other things -- journalists / authors / sometime members of the military. Respectively: 20th century -- the American William R. Manchester; and 19th century -- the British Henry M. Stanley (he who presumed that it was Dr. Livingstone).

Aberfeldy RFC play at Wade Park, and are members of the Caledonia League Midlands Four. Stobswell RFC play at Downfield Park, Dundee and also currently play in the same division.

North Queensferry in Fife also lies at the Northern extremity of a lengthy road bridge (now two) crossing a wide estuary (or firth as it would be called in Scotland).

Some ten miles south-west of Lossiemouth -- situated on a bay off the Moray Firth -- is Kinloss. The degree of name-similarity would appear to be coincidental; Kinloss is not on the River Lossie which gives Lossiemouth its name.

.....and - purely as an aside - both places have, or had, military air bases.

Several motion pictures have used Culross as a filming location, including The 39 Steps in 2008. Another location used for the film was Dumbarton Castle, which sits on a plug of volcanic basalt known as Dumbarton Rock overlooking the town of Dumbarton.

Ross County FC play all of their home matches in the Scottish Premiership at Victoria Park in Dingwall. Another club in the Scottish Premiership which doed not contain the name of the town that they play in in their name is St Mirren FC; they are based at St Mirren Park, Paisley, Renfrewshire.

The coat of arms of Louth, Lincolnshire also features a wolf. However Louth's is rampant whereas Stirling's is recumbent on a rock (presumably the volcanic plug)

Among other British vegetable-growers' associations, the Radish Growers' Association is based in Louth. Feltwell, Norfolk -- east of Thetford -- is a significant centre for the growing of radishes.

I got my directions mixed up -- Feltwell lies west, not east, of Thetford.

Methwold in Norfolk was also once under the jurisdiction of the Thetford Poor Law Union.

Centuries ago, Methwold was quite celebrated for the abundance and excellence of the area's rabbits -- known as "Muel rabbits". Said fare is known to have pleased King James I on at least one occasion. Of a different kind of "rabbit renown" is Sydmonton, Hampshire (north-west of Basingstoke). The village is situated very near the action of Richard Adams's Watership Down, and is mentioned by name a couple of times in the book.

I had planned to "hop in" with a rabbit-based association with the village of Bunny in Northamptonshire, but got distracted.

Moving on . . . .
Acocks Green, West Midlands, also has a church dedicated to St. Mary the Virgin.

You must have heard the one about the devotee of Mr. Adams's works, who went to see the film Rabbit-Proof Fence; and demanded his money back because it contained almost nothing specifically about rabbits ...

In 1643 during the English Civil War, Charles I's queen Henrietta Maria briefly graced with her presence, Walsall; and also Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire: where she landed from the Continent, bringing help for the Royalist cause.

Alice E. Gillington (1863 -- 1934) -- poet, author and journalist; and an enthusiast for the Romany people, the subject of much of her writing: was born in Audlem. A better-known literary fan of, and writer-about, the same community -- roughly half a century earlier -- was George Borrow (1803 -- 1881): born in Dereham, Norfolk.
