Two very different places mentioned in poems expressing acute nostalgia, written in the decade of the 1910's. Rupert Brooke's Grantchester, circa 1912, is of course a poetic "household word". And there's a less-well-known offering by the less-well-known poet John Macleod, written while serving in the Balkans in World War I and distilling in few words, great longing for his "native heath" in the Tain / Dornoch area. (Macleod was luckier than Brooke, in that he survived the war and saw his beloved scenes again.)

Gunnislake, Cornwall, is also only just in its county, lying on the border of a neighbouring one (Linton, Cambridgeshire / Essex; Gunnislake, Cornwall / Devon).

Pancrasweek is on an unnamed road which leads at it's southern end to the A3072. This is a long, meandering A-road running from Devon into North Cornwall passing through the market town of Stratton in Cornwall.

Treglasta lies on the River Inny, a small river in east Cornwall. It is a tributary of the River Tamar and is about twenty miles long from its source near Davidstow on the eastern flank of Bodmin Moor to its confluence with the Tamar.

Perranworthal's 15th-century Anglican parish church dedicated to Saint Piran was rebuilt to the design of James Piers St Aubyn between 1881 and 1882, at a cost of £1,200. At the same time, St Aubyn was designing St Peter's Church in Noss Mayo, Devon.

Noss Mayo occurs, we learn, in a list of Devon's twenty prettiest towns and villages, compiled by participants in the Visit Devon website. There is another "Devon twenty prettiest" list, put together by the Anglophile magazine; which doesn't include Noss Mayo, but features another settlement in the county with, in my opinion, a matchingly odd-ish name -- Washford Pyne, north of Crediton.

Folk- or fairy-tales with similar models title-wise, involve the Tailor of Gloucester; and the Pedlar of Swaffham (Norfolk). In the former (immortalised by Beatrix Potter) the Tailor finishes his job in the nick of time, thanks to murine assistance; in the latter, the Pedlar has a dream, following the instructions in which enables him to find an impressive treasure hoard.

The comedian Harry Hill mercilessly persecutes Swaffham in You’ve Been Framed. He was born in Woking.

Dogmersfield House, originally built by the St John-Mildmays in 1727, was occupied by Reed's School in the mid-1900s. It is an independent secondary boarding school for boys with a mixed sixth form and is now located in Cobham, Surrey.

Julie Andrews was born in Walton-on-Thames. In 1992 she had named after her an "orangey-salmon-pink" rose at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Leeds is another of the ten English cities most visited by overseas tourists in 2019. (I'm sure Leeds is a splendid place; but I was a bit surprised to see it featuring thus.)

Ely is an ‘isle’ though surrounded by land. Similar is the Isle of Axholme, in which Epworth is the largest settlement.
